Seriously man what is this, the 50s? Selling ice cream at the drugstore and diner, blasting that old Rock n Roll crap?
"Soda"? Come on, we've grown out of that stuff. This is a new day, a new generation.
I hereby move that we ban the word "soda" in reference to carbonated drinks.

I hereby move that we ban the word "soda" in reference to carbonated drinks. Agreed, besides, it's confusing. How many times have you had someone talk to you about soda, and they just meant carbonated water? Soda: Should just refer to carbonated water. Pop: Flavored carbonated water.

I have never ordered a pop. Soda, occasionally, coke, constantly but, never pop.

I'll call it what I want.
If I want to refer to it as whale vomit I will.
Try and stop me.
That's what I thought.

I always thought the preference for soda vs pop depended on where you live.

I could live with and tolerate "Soda" if we could get those blasted southerners to stop calling it "a Coke" when referencing Dr Pepper, Sprite, Root Beer, etc. COKE IS COKE. Other pops have names. How would you like it if I ran around calling every southern person "A Billy-Bob" just because that was the most popular (albeit "popular" in a stereotypical way -- insert the real most common name here if you wish) name in the area?

Regional variations in dialect and, really, anything strange or different from my local area also anger me, my brother in arms!

I cant wait till Wrestlemania next year in Atlanta, just for the off chance they do a skit with CM Punk trying to order a Pepsi.

Actually, pop sounds more 50's-ish to me than soda. The word just conjures up thoughts of a kid going to the local dinner and ordering a refreshing "Soda Pop". I could live with and tolerate "Soda" if we could get those blasted southerners to stop calling it "a Coke" when referencing Dr Pepper, Sprite, Root Beer, etc. COKE IS COKE. Other pops have names. I live in North Carolina and I don't know a single person who refers to another soda that's not Coke as "a Coke". I'm sure they are out there, but it's not even nearly as prodiminate as you make it sound - here in NC at least.

Meh, I get called Redneck, hillbilly and hick all the time it seems. Also, it's not like other brand names haven't become synonymous with all products. Tissue = kleenex, in-line skates = rollerblades, UFC = MMA and WWF/E= wrestling.

Everyone in Canada calls it pop. I've only ever heard soda used by Americans.

Also, I'd like to add. That if Jones calls them soda, I'm going to call them soda. www.jonessoda.com/The rare time I drink soda now - I've only had one soda in the past three months - I only drink Jones. I refuse to drink high fructose corn syrup anymore. And once again, neither one is wrong. You people do all realize both soda and pop came from the same phrase of "soda pop" right?

I only drink Jones. I refuse to drink high fructose corn syrup anymore. Their strawberry lime is a thing of beauty. Wish I could find some Dr. Pepper throwback (or whatever it's called) though.
