Hey Crappers! Long time board reader and finally signed up ;D Anyway I was wondering what everybody's opinions were on using Roland e-drums at gigs? I much prefer electronic drums over acoustic drums, but has anybody used them live?

I'm pretty old school, and the more this world keeps going all-digital and all-electronic, the more I start wishing it would get back to its natural roots. Depends what type of music you're doing though. If you have a lot of other electronic sounds, if you're on the hip-hop/techno branch, it might work. If you're trying to play rock with electronic drums.... just, no.

I do hope e-drums become more accepted sooner than later, because they do have some advantages over acoustics (no need to mic, various kits etc.).

I used to have reservations against e drums, but I hung out with my bud and his garage band and heard the beats that his drummer laid down, and he could rock 'em. And this was some time ago so I'm assuming that they sound even better now.

I prefer using an acoustic kit, but can see why some would prefer e-drums.
If it goes with the music you're playing, go for it. If you're a rocker like me, I'd still strongly recommend acoustic drums, but...

Neal Peart uses both acoustic and e-drums for performances and it sounds pretty cool because, well, he's Neal Peart.

Thanks to everyone who has replied so far! In case it helps I have a TD-4, so it's not a top of the line cost an arm and a leg Roland, but it's not a crappy one either.
