I've been to a few, and I have nothing against them; I just really don't understand the appeal. I went the first time because it was a friend's birthday; I went again on my 23rd birthday and had a good time both times. I just ... don't get it.
I mean, the women make good money, I'm sure, just for taking off their clothes and "dancing" on a stage. They're not paid to talk to you - but they do, because you give them more money that way - and they're certainly not going to f*** you, especially if all you're bringing to the table is "I'm a regular customer" (which, from what I've been told by my female friends-turned-strippers, is code for "I'm so lonely!") so what's the point? Especially in this day and age, when female nudity is literally only seconds away on the internet. (and a lot of the time, the women on the internet are a lot better looking than what you'd find at a strip club, but that's just my opinion.)
Oh, and before we get to the "You said you had a good time, so how do you not know what the appeal is?" posts, bear in mind that (a) I was with a group of friends who helped keep me entertained, and (b) I was under the influence both times.

Back in the day it was the perfect trifecta. Naked women, beer and cigarettes. Now you can't smoke in there and it's not as fun.
The last time I went all the chicks were built like freakin' Lawerence Taylor and slightly better looking.
Seriously, there's naked women, that's all you need to know.

To be honest, it's no big deal to me. I honestly thought there would be more mystique or something involved, but the place I went to was sort of a dump. It was for my friend's bachelor party, so we had fun, but honestly it was far from the highlight of that night.
The strip club was just a small room attached to a porn shop with a BYOB sign. There was also a bucket and mop... if you threw up, you cleaned it up (or apparently could pay a stripper $100.) The friend's future wife's friend was one of the strippers and we rode over with her. Nice woman and she looked pretty good naked, but after her well... the strippers went in order of age, apparently, as the older women joked they wanted us "boys" to have some booze in us first. The stripper friend told us after a 40-ish year old woman finished dancing to Poison and the like that we should likely leave. We did and saw a woman who looked 60 (really apparently she was only in her 40's) outside smoking a cigarette in a bathrobe asking us if we were staying. The first one who took the stage though, was smoking hot. She was apparently just picking up some extra bookings, though, and only worked that building once every few months.
So yeah, I've never seen the big deal of strippers, personally, but that was hardly a top notch strip club.
My dad told me afterwards to wear a dress shirt and tie if I ever go again. Apparently they tend to get up close more with guys wearing a tie and play with them.

IMO, they're a colossal waste of time and money. The beer and drinks in just about every last one of those places are overpriced, and hey all it amounts to is a huge tease. You can't DO anything with the women....most places touching is highly discouraged. So they just grind on you, give you a raging case of blue balls, and that's that. You go home drunk and frustrated.
Totally pointless.

I don't go regularly so it hasn't lost its appeal to me.
It really all depends on what strip club you go to. I was in Vegas last summer, and speaking from personal exeprience (i.e. it didn't happen to me, but a friend of mine), you can get away with a lot of stuff as long as both of you are discreet about it. Depends on the area though, if its a crazy wild spot like Vegas or Miami or even L.A....yeah, the rules might be bent a bit.

There was a notorious one here in Memphis called Platinum Plus. It shutdown a few years ago, and with good reason. It was really just a glorified brothel. I mean it was crazy, I have seen girls enjoying each others company on stage (If you no what I mean.) and people doing drugs there.
As bad as it was, I must admit I had some good times there.

Especially in this day and age, when female nudity is literally only seconds away on the internet. (and a lot of the time, the women on the internet are a lot better looking than what you'd find at a strip club, but that's just my opinion.) I can answer this part. Because seeing naked girls in person is better than seeing one on a screen or in a magazine, at least in my opinion. I'd rather see an average looking woman naked in person than a super hot one naked on my computer. Generally though, I do agree with what you've said. I used to go to strip clubs when I was in my 20's, but now I am 33 and I hardly ever go. I'm still single and everything too... I just lost a lot of interest. The novelty of it all has kinda worn off. I guess I no longer feel like I want to pay $10 for a bottle of beer and pay girls $25 to touch me for 3 minutes. I spent 18 months being out of work because of the recession, and I now have a whole new outlook on the value of my money. On top of all this, it seems that almost all girls who work in strip clubs are tattooed up girls who are half my age. Not that I'm judging them for that, but it's just not what I'm into anymore. No offense to anyone who does go to strip clubs, since I did used to go to them. I honestly just feel that I've outgrown them (again, no offense to anybody)

I've only been to a couple in my time. Total waste of time at most of them. But there was one in Ottawa that was pretty high class and fun.

They are fine if you go out with your boys and/or are drunk. It's a great atmosphere to kickback and BS with friends...plus there are naked chicks around...accept them for what they are worth..it's not like you are going there to find your soulmate

The first and only time I have been to a strip club was back in 1998 for my 21st birthday.
It was OK and the women did look good and no I did not get drunk.

Never been to one, never will. It defies logic. I don't go to the grocer's, pay $3, look at the bread and go home.
Jed Shaffer ~Yes, I just compared a stripped to bread. Make your own yeast infection joke here.

I don't see the appeal either, so I'll likely never go to one.

For a year I worked security at a strip club and honestly alot of the customers and the women who worked there (who I got a chance to talk to that is) had serious issues.

I don't get the appeal either, but then again I live in a province that's actually banned nudity from strip clubs, so there wouldn't be much point in going anyway.

Sure they can take of their clothes and dance around and get paid for it. But when I try to join in, I get the cops called on me.
