I did an extensive search of the forums and couldn't find a thread all its own for the movie, so what did you all think of it? Anyone else read the book before seeing it? I just saw it and really didn't like it, and I say this as someone who has been a huge Peter Jackson fan since the 90s. If anyone's seen 'Heavenly Creatures,' you know he is capable of doing a film like this but he really let CGi get in the way. For those that haven't read the book, did the ending seem really out-of-nowhere/unsatisfying to you? Here's my expanded thoughts on the movie, complete with jokes - popularopinions.wordpress.com/2010/02/06/the-lovely-bones-movie-review/

I haven't read the book, but I have a copy in my classroom at school, and one of my students had been reading it this year. I asked him about it, and he told me what it was about, so I knew I wanted to see the movie once I saw they had made it. I really enjoyed it. I had no expectations going in, so I enjoyed it throughout. The CGI scenes were somewhat cheesy, but I'm sure they really excited the female teen demographic that this film was marketed towards.
The guy who played the killer was outstanding in this film. I wanted to see something very bad happen to him by the end.

I thought it was a good film but nothing spectacular. The CGI scenes when Susie is in her "purgatory" looked great but they slowed down the movie far too much. The stuff involving the family was very well done though. Stanley Tucci was excellent and Saoirse Ronan was very good too. After great performances in this and Atonement she is looking like a fine actress.

It was a bit of a letdown considering expectations and the talent involved, but it was still a solid movie. Just not great.

The movie was way too light hearted considering the subject matter, it should have been very dark and depressing but you watch it and don't seem to feel that bad at all because she's in this nice place and what not and at times the killer was pretty over the top to the point that he was almost funny. But with that said, I don't think it was a bad movie it just didn't quite hit the nail on the head.

It was ok, but wasn't great. Too be honest I'm not the biggest fan of the book either. It's ok, not great. Stanley Tucci was awesome in it though.

does it end the same way as the book? that is the main reason i am not seeing it. It's a similar ending one SPOILER ALERT instead of the icicle impaling dude's head, it just hits him on the top of the head and makes him fall off a cliff. Also, there's NO REFERENCE TO ICICLES ANYWHERE IN THE FILM BEFORE THIS so instead of being foreshadowed by Susie's essay on the perfect murder weapon, it's just a random freak occurrence with no real connection made to the murders whatsoever, leaving everyone who read the book totally unsatisfied. I got into this more in my review in the top post.
