But this time, it's because for the entirety of the PPV, he made me forget that Lawler was there. He actually kept Lawler from saying more than a few words at a time, and managed to keep Cole at bay for the most part, all while calling the Flying Shoryuken, and saying things like "somewhere, Inoki is smiling right now". Thank you Striker, for shutting Lawler the hell up.

I didn't get to watch tonight, but I'm right there with ya. I did hear word of the following interaction:
Lawler: The only difference between Orton and Sheamus is their skin color! Striker: Really? That's your insightful commentary?
God bless you, Striker.

I loved Striker on commentary, I wish he were on Raw.
Lawler: I didn't even know the Undertaker's blood was red! Striker: Well, actually it's blue until it hits oxygen.

I don't know guys... I like Striker, and he definitely is a breath of fresh air at times (though the constant making up of nicknames is kind of taxing) but really, if the thing he is most lauded for is "shutting up Lawler/Cole" or making video game references, then I don't know if the adoration is in the right place. And besides for every smart and privy heel commentator (Heenan,Ventura, Striker) there is always a gullible and whitebread foil to him. I really don't think that even with his vast in and out of the ring knowledge (kinesiology and such, for which I applaud him) that Striker can be entertaining on his own. He needs someone to pick on, and I think someone like Cole, who regardless of everyone's hate of him, delivers the "whitebread" pretty convincingly to me.
So yes, I do like Striker, but without someone to "shut up", I don't think he's too entertaining to the regular fan.

That's your insightful commentary? God bless you, Striker. That was great. I really wish they'd put the other Old Yeller out to pasture and move Striker up. 'Course, that won't happen, because I'm sure Vince hates the way he provides insight...or at least doesn't understand any of it. And yeah, I marked for the Lord Humongous mention...and the fact that it seemed to go right over Lawler's head...and it was directed at him.

I tend to agree with you, I find Striker's at his best when he's working with Cole, believe it or not. That episode of Smackdown the two did while Grisham was away for personal reasons was hands down the greatest night of commentating in our sport (also because Smackdown is The Cole's show and he's much more comfortable/better there than live on RAW, IMO). Cole arguing with Striker and actually responding to his heel commentary bait (which Grisham/Matthews NEVER do) is gold. Of course, the best combo of all time was JR and Striker (when JR did that episode of ECW) so Striker definitely shines brighter when he has a reliable PBP guy to work with.

One complaint, though, and if anything he's only guilty of using "WWE math":
When Kofi came out at #27, Striker pointed out that #27 has yielded the most winners over the year and he declared Kingston the "statistical favourite", implying that there was some kind of tangible advantage to being #27, which makes no sense whatsoever.

Striker takes the obnoxious edge off Cole and King. Cole is actually okay when he has someone to play off of. With Taz(z) or Striker he does great. King has lost a step or three in the last few years but still works okay with JR. He and Cole together are awful though. Cole, King and Striker seem to have something together. I'm all for that team doing Raw. Kinda leaves ECW lost, though mayber Striker could do both.
...I suddenly realize I don't know who does commentary for Smackdown. One's Grisham, right? He still suck?
