The only grammar thing that really bugs me, and I see it here all the time, isn't the "etc. vs. ect." thing, but the "should of, would of, could of, might of" problem,
It's "should HAVE, would HAVE, could HAVE, might HAVE."
Seriously, I have no idea how anyone could read a sentence and think using "of" instead of "have" sounds right.
"Man, A.I. would of been a great movie if it hadn't of nosedived in the last half hour."
And when someone does this, they'll almost ALWAYS do it multiple times in the same sentence.
I mean, really, I don't want to be a grammar Nazi, but simply saying "It's just the Internet" is no excuse for the ruthless amount of brain-rotting grammar encountered on a daily basis. Especially when we live in an age where people think using the possessive form is the same as pluralizing something.

Consider me another Grammar Nazi. Nothing burns me up more than going online to check out Facebook, and seeing people with college educations using "your" when "you're" should be used, and other mistakes most 5th graders wouldn't make. Sad, really.
I know a girl who posted something on her Facebook about getting a new computer. She called it a "lab top", as in short for laboratory. I thought it may have been a mistake of some sort until I saw her do it again.
It shows ineptitude and laziness when you don't spell correctly or use proper grammar. Bottom line. If you're grown and can't spell (and don't have dyslexia or something along those lines), you should work on it. If you don't know, ask a friend. At least then you're trying to further yourself. There's no reason to go through life botching everything you write or type in your own native tongue while Grammar Nazi's like myself become infuriated, and eventually just laugh at you for being dumb.
Before I dip out of this thread never to return to it, I'd like to make a final point that none of this was directed at any particular poster. If you take offense to it, chances are, you're one of those people I was just talking about.

People actually use the other? That's weird. This is the first time that I've ever heard that.

I have another one that's not quite deserving of its own thread, but bugs the bejesus out of me. More and more, I'm seeing people leaving out "to be" when connecting "needs" with a verb.
For example... "I have a lawn that needs mowed." NEEDS TO BE MOWED. "Needs mowed" sounds like you came from the slow class.

Don't really care if people make mistakes on their grammar, since English isn't my native language and I rarely speak use it when I'm talking... though, I have to brag that I also rarely use spell check when I'm writing, ha ha ha. I try to improve my skills often since my main interest is in writing.
On the other hand, text speak does annoy me since I have a hard time understanding that.

What about when people say they "could care less?" If you can care less, it means that you do care about it.

Etc., always. If I ever say "ect", it's simply a typo.

I for one just assume that anytime people mess up the "There/Their/They're" type stuff or "etc/ect" type stuff it's due to typos or just hurried typing. I mean they are on a message board not writing an essay for their SAT's or something. I know this can happen through personal experience. I good and well know the difference between there, their, and they're but sometimes when I'm typing a lot I'll type the wrong one in and not even realize it. Then, even if I do run a spell check (which I don't, once again it's just Wrestlecrap Message Boards) it's still not going to notice that because it's spelled correctly. I'm not going to proof read every post I make, and I'm sure there are many others like me.
Therefore, when it comes to internet message boards and random posts, I pay no mind to trivial spelling errors and instead go by what I know they mean.
