i own both a 360, but not a ps3. i've always liked how Sony has handled the FF series, so i was looking for some opinions from other people.
should i get it on 360 or do you think it'll visually look better/maybe play better on the playstation console/controller

Both versions will play the same. The PS3 has just a slight, microscopic, barely able to tell whatsoever edge visually over the 360 version, according to those that have played both copies(ie reviewers who can't actually post their reviews yet cause of the review embargo).
The general consensus is the in game real time graphics are pretty much pixel for pixel the same. The only real difference is the cutscenes. The 360's cutscenes were compressed to fit onto the 3 discs. But even though the 360 cutscenes are weaker than the PS3's they still look amazing.
In other words, regardless of the version you'll pick, you'll be a winner, and if you'd like, you can discuss the game in the Official Final Fantasy XIII thread. I'll go dig it up for you.

I have been hearing the difference is more along the lines of Bayonetta. But this time with PS3 being way better.

I'll be getting it for 360 simply because it's all I have. I'd rather have it on PS3, but I really don't care.

I usually pick the 360 version of a game, but I'm going with PS3 for this one. The only differences I'm aware of are higher resolution cutscenes and the convenience of having one disc instead of three, but that's enough to sway me. Plus, I still see Final Fantasy as a Playstation brand, so to me it feels more natural to play it on PS3.
I don't think you'll really lose out on anything by getting the 360 version though, so I wouldn't worry about it.

I mean, I get what you are saying, the main series has been PlayStation only for over a decade, but then again so has the series on the Nintendo systems. Well I guess you can say it is a "Japanese" brand, cause the 360 is the first time the series has ever been on a Western made console.

In my opinion the whole multiple disc thing is unacceptable in this day and age of gaming. Back in the 90's it wasn't as big a deal because the technology was new, and disc space wasnt anywhere near what it is now. Final Fantasy 13 isn't a priority for me at all, but if I do wanna play it, I'm glad I have the PS3 option.
I would think Microsoft would be looking into some kind of way to increase the capacity of DVD's, at least for the rest of this generation of gaming, I doubt the next Xbox uses DVD.

HD-DVD, BAY-BEH! jk. But yeah, all the writers at OXM seem to mention Blu-Ray on the next console.

Playstation 3.
This shouln't even be a question you need to ask.
While the X-Box version is visually no different except in the cutscenes, I reckon it'd be odd to play an FF game on that odd controller, not to mention that it wa built for the Playstation, and then adapted for XB, so there will likely be other little things along the way.

Odd controller? I actually prefer it to the PS3 controller. I've never thought that the Playstation controllers were comfortable. I don't like the design at all. The 360 controller is my second favourite console controller ever, right behind the Gamecube, so perhaps I just have weird taste.

Maybe it's to do with use. I used to own a Snes, then got the PS, PS2 and now PS3. I had an N64 as well, and oddly liked that controller after a while, but always just prefer the PS ones.
The XB ones always just feel too big and different in my hands.

The XB ones always just feel too big and different in my hands. The old XBox controllers always felt huge in my hands, but the 360 one just feels right to me, and I have pretty small hands. But yeah, I was schooled on an NES and an SNES, but I've also had a PS1 and a PS2, and used them a whooole lot. So I'm used to the Playstation controller design, I just don't like it very much. And glad to know someone else actually really liked the N64 controller. I love that thing.

cool, thanks everyone.
i feel the same way tho, i always associate FF with Playstation, especially after they ported the older games to the ps1. so while i am used to play FF on a playstation, if it's cutscenes and disk size, i'll go for 360 so i can at least play it.
i don't even have a hi-def tv, so yeah, doesn't seem much of a point.
thanks again!!

Pah, you should buy a PS3 just for this game to experience it in full

As for the controller debate, I pretty much prefer 360's. I like the layout better and they feel like they have more heft in my hands. Whenever I hold a PS contoller I feel like I'm going to break it. Also, does anyone know if FF on PS3 is supposed to have an install or not? If it doesn't, I'll switch my pre-order over to the PS3 version, if it does I'll keep it on 360. I usually pick the 360 version of a game, but I'm going with PS3 for this one. I think the 360 installation is around 18.5GB and the PS3 install is like 38GB, but these are optional.

Okay, I just don't want to have to install it and waste the drive space on it. I just don't like doing that stuff. So as long as there is no install I may switch to the PS3 version.

The N64 controller worked perfectly for International Track and Field
