So, lately, I wanted to check one more game to movie adaptation to see if there was some hope for this genre (after all, Silent Hill was very good, Postal was actually surprisingly fun and even the Resident Evil movies can be enjoyable when watching them with friends, so it's not ALL bad), and I decided to check Doom because I met a few people who actually didn't hate it, and because Dwayne Johnson is in it.
And frankly... I liked it. Oh don't get me wrong, the scenario isn't very elaborate (to say the least) and it's definitely not a masterpiece, but I thought it was pretty fun. You see, I feared it would be just like any other bland, boring action movie that gets a D2D release on a weekly basis, but the movie actually kept me entertained for its entire duration (well, most of it).
Granted, it was a disappointment that they decided to make the monsters genetically modified human as opposed to actual demons, not to mention it forced them to use almost only the Imps and they didn't even shoot fireballs, and the story between the main character and his sister is completely pointless, but the actors are decent and the characters are fairly likable (I especially loved Portman, even though he ends up doing something extremely stupid before dying), which already gives this movie a plus compared to 90% of the rest, the action is good (and really, that's the only reason anyone goes to see a movie based on Doom in the first place) and the movie surprisingly didn't fall into too many clichés, so it still has quite a few surprises to offer.
Also, while the story has VERY little to do with any of the games, I was surprised to see that it actually does look like the games (well, the third one at least), which still makes this movie closer to the original material than most adaptations of video games.
So in short, it certainly isn't a memorable movie, but I would sure as Hell rather see it again than most action movies that get released nowadays.
So what did you guys and gals think of it?

I didn't think it was that bad. Just kind of a throw away movie. I have it on DVD and have thrown it on a few times for something to watch. Also thought the FPS view was kind of cool.

I thought it was pretty good. Liked the FPS segment. Also, favorite line:
"I'm not supposed to die. " *Sarge dragged away*
Reminded me of Men in Tights with the "Wait a minute, I'm not suppose to lose" thing.

The Rock was a great heel in that flick.
It's certainly a serviceable movie in anyway case, not horrible, not great, just a pretty standard action flick.

Well, it's Doom. Never really had much of a story to begin with.
It was a good movie because there wasn't really any continuity to rape.

Not a terrible movie. Not a great movie. Works as perfect background noise during the day.
Plus, I always mark at The Rock's "Semper Fi, motherf***er" line. Sheer awesome.

So bad what? So bad you want to stab yourself in the eyes with a pencil? Yeah it wasn't so bad. But it wasn't so good either.

Considering it's based off a game that had a 2 paragraph story and plot, it did pretty well.
My only grip would be the lack of a rocket launcher or plasma rifle, but that's pretty nit-picky.
They deserve some props for at least attempting to get a couple Iconic Doom monsters in there: Zombies, Imps and the Pink Demons. Any other mobs would have been a little wild since the movie was attempting to remain quasi-realistic.

I actually loved this movie when it first came out, but now I find it only pretty much okay.
The Rock's "heel turn" felt a bit...shoehornish, I might say.

The main problems I had with the movie were that: a) it was basically a rehash of Aliens with a little bit of Predator thrown in for good measure; b) the monsters were the result of genetic engineering - f*** that! I want monsters from Hell on Mars, how hard is that? c) not enough monsters, but decent with what they did.
In any case I thought that it was serviceable, disposable entertainment, but I would rather watch Aliens or Predator over Doom any day of the week.

This movie got a pass from me for how The Rock tells that one guy to STFU. Had me laughing for quite a while.

good movie ... one point in the film i actually agree with the rock's take , that the best way make sure the virus does not get on earth is to killed everyone there , just to make sure.
The FPS segment was damn good had you jumping in your seat.

I thought it was reasonable. It's not like the games were hugely intellectual, so if that's what you were looking for, well, then evidently you had high hopes.
Meh. Some of the overacting got on my nerves, but in terms of silly action movies, it's hardly the worst thing to come down the pipe lately.

The Rock's "heel turn" felt a bit...shoehornish, I might say. Yeah, that's one of my few pet peeves I have with the game. It felt forced, like the writers told themselves "we need more drama! Let's make Sarge turn evil!"

I'm not gonna lie, I HATED the movie. Went to it opening night, and was just down right mad when I left the theatre. The FPS scene was cool, but I hated everything else. Random story, I actually bought a DVD 2 pack a couple months ago, it was The Rundown and Doom for $7. I picked it up seeing as my copy of Rundown (an awesome movie in my opinion) had gotten jacked. Came home, sold the Doom DVD to my room mate for $5 before I even unwrapped it. Later that night, he exited his bedroom, and asked for his $5 back

I hated how they completely changed it and made it basically into a zombie monster movie. Although I will get it points for having the first person shooter camera view which was pretty awesome.

It wasn't bad. I brought it the other day for 3 bucks. It's worth that much. Good for some random action movie. If you played the game before it makes it more understandable.
