There's been a lot of trouble with the track: Chris Mazdzer, Megan Sweeney, Tony Benshoof and Bengt Walden have all crashed during training. well it's a near 500 foot drop with ridiculous speeds. If world records aren't broke I'll be surprised. Also, this could be there will injuries and crashes.

Amazing that not all security measures have been taken on that track the day before the Olympics. Surprised it even got cleared at this rate.

Georgian luger Nodar Kumaritashvili died after falling off his sled and hitting a pole. Terrible start to the Olympics. This is going to be a huge scandal. Not only were they not taking safety messures but several media outlets are posting DEATH PHOTOS (one of the guy crashing into the pole and one of the guy bleeding and dying.) Sick stuff.

yeah they should probably just cancel the luge and bobsled events right now since the course seems to be too unsafe.

Regarding the first post on the top of the page, what is with that logo? Is this the Olympics or Burning Man? Seriously, the Olympics seem to always have the worst logos ever. It's an inukshuk... www.inukshukgallery.com/inukshuk.htmlAn inukshuk is a little structure of rocks that Inuit erect to show that someone has been in a particular place... Of course, there might be 12 Eskimos in Vancouver, tops, but the organizers of the bid thought it would be cool and different for the logo. I'm not a fan...but it is okay...

Deepest of condolscences to the Geogian luger's family. This is certainly not how you want to start out an olympics. I doubt however they will cancel anything because of this. I heard on the radio that he had left the events seriously injured. So its not like they scraped up the corpse and moved him to the side while everyone else did the luge. So many people have trained for years for this event. Cancelling it would be unfair to those people.

From what I've heard they will do everything in in their power to make the track safer. Such an unfortunate accident and my heart goes out to his family. Hopefully the Games can carry on without anymore accidents like this.

I can't speak for everyones NBC affliate by mine is playing infommercials. They paid all this money to be the official olympic channel and are showing infommercials. I'm not happy at all about this.

I did not think they were going to show anything untill the ceremonies tonight. Mine has Dr.Oz on. Just like it normally does.

How much build are Canada and the US getting before the opening ceremony? UK coverage starts at 1:45am, which is 5:45pm Vancouver time.

It's been on all damn day as far as I know. ----------------- Ok, I watched the crash video. How can those supports be there? They were practically asking for this to happen with that. They can foam it all they want, it wouldn't have helped. RIP, man.

I'm in shock.
I've not seen the video (nor do I really want to), but this is just devastating. My sincere hope is that no one blames the organizing committee nor anyone else until the investigation is complete.
Clearly, this hurts the Opening Ceremonies and I've heard Georgia may not march at least and may not participate at all at worst.
My heart bleeds for the lost life, for those affected by the loss and for the Olympics as a whole, especially the city of Vancouver. For their games that they have worked so hard for to already have this happen is tragic.

This terrible accident should have not have happened. My heart goes out to his countrymen and those that knew him well. Such a tragic loss.

My sincere hope is that no one blames the organizing committee nor anyone else until the investigation is complete. I'll blame them and if you saw the video you would know why. For the life of me I can't figure out why they would even have an open area with exposed pillars at any point in the track. This was a disaster just waiting to happen, and there will be people fired and most likely brought up on charges of criminal negligence because of this.

A tragic start to the games. I really hope this incident is not completely glossed over during the opening ceremony. It will need to mentioned during the speeches. ------------------------------------ The Opening Ceremony is on is just over an hours time. They have local musicians. I'm hoping it's Rush or The Arcade Fire. But it will be probably someone s*** like Nickleback, Celine Dion or Bryan f***ing Adams.

Nelly Furtado's mentioned the ceremony a couple of times, so she's very likely in.

One athlete is dead, several more have crashed, and possibly got injured, quite simply whoever designed the track f***ed up big time and the event needs to be canceled. It is the only thing that can be done. We know the track is lethal now. And looking at the track, there is nothing they can do to make it safe, at least not the part of the track where the Georgian luger suffered his crash at.
