I completely agree. His one after that and The Eminem Show were good but he will never be able to recreate an album as good as his first one. It just sounded so raw and real.

Personally, I feel that Marshall Mathers LP holds up better and is his best effort. Although I can find little to complain about with Shady, I can barely listen to My Name Is anytime I listen to the album. Role Model was, in my opinion, one of his best singles all around. Still really dig that one.

I honestly prefer the Marshall MAtters LP since it sounded more serious. Honestly, I mnly know one song from the Slim Shady LP which is "My name is". I had a frind who would sing it all the time in high school. I mean every freakin second that it got tireing. But it's not his best song.
I still hate Encore though.

It's a very good album but The Marshall Mathers LP has much better songs on it and is more angry and focused imo. They are his 2 best albums though.

It always perplexes me when people discuss "Marshall Mathers LP" being more serious when so much of the anger on that album is directed at boybands.
I guess I just feel 'Slim Shady LP' aged the best because it is so self-contained. Em spent the rest of his career remaking 'MMLP' over-and-over again with the I hate Kim/My Mom/Pop Music but love Hailey songs over and over that, to me at least, it takes away from the original's effect. The references in particular make it sound incredibly dated. 'SSLP' could have been recorded today.
Also, how about that original press kit and MTV interview? He really didn't think he was going to become the biggest thing in the world.

I prefer the Marshall Mathers LP over his first album, though I think my personal favorite of his endeavors has been The Eminem Show. I loved pretty much every single song on that album. Lyrically and emotionally, probably not his best (spare songs like "Cleaning Out My Closet" and "Hailie's Song"), but I enjoy the songs more from that album than the others.

You ever here where the "Guilty Conscious" sample comes from?
