On SportsCenter, they were doing a story about baseball player Mark McGuire & his brother Jay. During the setup for the story, the anchor hinted that their relationship was strained, "but not on the level of Cain & Abel or even Kane & the Undertaker."
That honestly floored me. I had no idea that Kane & the Undertaker's rivalry was THAT well-known outside of wrestling circles. I wonder how many people got the reference? I could see Coach saying something like that, but not anybody else. It's not ground-breaking news, but I thought it was really interesting.

Wow that's actually pretty cool as I never hear wrestling mentioned outside of the shows (well except recently with Undertaker's fireball incident). That would surprise me too if I heard it to be honest

On SportsCentre here in Canada, it's not too uncommon for wrestling to be referenced. Plus, Reali makes references on Around the Horn all the time. Most of which go over the heads of the panelists

Kind of a related story. Dan Boyle was being interviewed for a Sharks pregame show and mentioned that the last book he read was Bret Harts

They say that now, but just wait until Jay McGuire stuffs Mark in a coffin and sets it on fire.

ESPN and WWE seem to be pretty close from a business standpoint, with one hyping the other every now and then. Probably the Coachman connection!

Heh, one of the AFL commentators over here drops tons of wrestling references. They just come out of the blue and I never expect them.

Well, the Kane/Undertaker rivalry blossomed during the Attitude era, back when everyone was jumping on the wrestling bandwagon. So even those who got off the bandwagon years ago could still recognize it.

I know that Robert Flores is a huge wrestling fan, but I haven't seen him in forever. I don't even know if he still does SC.

Why shouldn't they know about a storyline over a decade old? Its as much a part of pop culture as anything else, although I'm glad they got the facts right.
