I'm watching the Iron Man match from WM12 and I have to say it is a "classic" great wrestling from Shawn and Bret and also a mention of Jerry Lawlers Heel commentating! Great stuff!

I think it's interesting how much some of the fans hated the finish and how people were leaving during the match

Honestly, there's only match from WrestleMania 12 I like and this isn't it. That goes to Diesel / Taker - not given credit it deserves considering it manages to be a good match between the mid-90's Undertaker and Kevin Nash.

I remember being so pissed about Shawn winning that I didn't watch wrestling for nearly a year after that. While I'm certainly a fan of his work now, when I was a kid I just couldn't stand him.
Still, that they were able to hold my attention as a 9 year old for 60+ minutes is testament to how good that match really was. Even now I can still watch it every once in a while and enjoy it as much as I did back then.

Taker/Diesel is one of my most favorite super-heavyweight/big man matches ever.

I think it would have been remembered much more fondly if it was a one fall match and not an iron man match.

Good match. Tired of people shitting on it. My only problem was the finish. I was a big fan of Bret Hart and was disgusted with the transparent super-push that HBK was getting. With all the "boyhood dream" shit they were shoving down our throats, you knew he was getting the belt. Then it looks like it's over and he gets nothing, only for the match to be restarted. I hated that. Kayfabe-wise, if the match is going beyond the time limit, then Bret should have sat there with the sharpshooter for an extra minute. He had the match in control. Then he thinks it's over and is almost gone when told to come back. Kayfabe-wise, that pissed me off. Most of all, I just didn't like seeing HBK go over Bret. I was more into ECW at that point anyway, so I just stopped watching WWF, except for occasionally durin Nitro's commercials or something.

Even though Rock vs HHH, Angle vs Lesnar and Benoit vs HHH generally get a tad more love when it comes to Iron Man matches, when I think of great wrestlers, great matches, great buildups, great moments and Iron Man matches in general, this match will ALWAYS pop up into my head first.
This match truly is two of the best EVER, in their prime, going at it in a professional wrestling match for the most prestigious title in the world. No disrespect to the others though as they're all classics.

Thought it was boring the first time I saw it sometime this side of the millennium. Warmed to it slightly when I watched it again a month or so ago.
It drags in the first 30 - 40 minutes. Would have helped if they'd tried to make covers more often.

What strikes me whenever I watch it is how much McMahon and Lawler sound as if they're in a completely empty auditorium as the fans aren't into it AT ALL. And I'm not just talking fatigue for a few minutes. Much of the hour they're not at all interested.

I loved the last minute or so of the match and the overtime.... The rest of it bored me to death and I'm a huge HBK mark. His matches with Vader, Mankind, and even Sid I thought were better at the time.

It is almost impossible to keep people interested in a match for a solid hour. I mean, with what they are used to, that is. I commend them for trying.

I think this match would've gone better if there had been more than one fall. I myself didn't like it and I'm a total Hitman fan. If it ended like 3 to 2 or something like that it may have been better. People get weary and bored if nothing interesting happens.
I did hear that a reason there was only one fall was cause neither guy trusted the other and if during a planned pinfall both of them suspected the other would kick out on purpose.

Saw it on PPV when it was live, and loved every minute of it. I could see the ending being iffy, but I was a HUGE HBK mark (still am) so I loved it. It's not quite as fun to rewatch now (as others said, the first half kinda drags on) but I still enjoy the match.
I'm also fond of the Diesel/Taker match mentioned earlier, even though I've never liked Taker. I was rooting for Diesel.

It needed a clear fan favourite. If you're going to go for an hour, you want someone the fans can relate to, cheer on and support. If you're going to put two faces in there, you get just a neutralisation of the atmosphere, which is part of the reason why the crowd were so quiet. ....perhaps both guys should have got tips from Warrior as to how to work a face vs face match in a Wrestlemania main event

I think it would have been remembered much more fondly if it was a one fall match and not an iron man match. Bingo! It stands as the worst Iron Man match I've ever seen.
