I swear, after one episode, WWE has done a great job getting me interested in their show. Let's gloss over the whole Danielson/Miz thing that's going on, and feels like the centerpiece. Enough ink tonight has been spilled on that. Look at how the pairings are coming to fruition. We have this cocky, arrogant dynamic going on between Wade Barrett and Chris Jericho (Jericho making Barrett introduce him and then cutting him short when he tried jawing with the audience was spectacular), the good time enjoyment between Christian and Heath Slater, the contrast between streetwise R-Truth and the entitled Hollywood "star" David Otunga, and probably best of all, and totally out-of-left field, the lack of enthusiasm that CM Punk had for tutoring Darren Young. It could be interesting to see how that one develops, as it looks like Punk has already looked past him.
We even have an interesting Pro/Rookie dynamic developing between Michael Cole and Josh Matthews, as Matthews seems to be sympathizing with the rooks since he went down that path himself, and Cole is siding with the Pros who think respect should be earned. Now, if the rest of the wrestlers can keep this up, it could make for a very interesting show as the weeks go on.
I got to give the WWE some credit, this show is going to get very interesting.

I completely agree with you, I wasn't sure what this was going to be like but after one episode I love it. As you said the Danielson/Miz thing going on is very interesting and the whole show is just great, especially Otunga and Slater

This show needs Kaval! The dynamic he'd have with any mentor would be amazing.

I had high hopes for this ever since I read about the concept and I'm glad they came through with the debut. I hope they keep up the momentum.

I think the stars so far are Daniel Bryan and David Otunga. Bryan looked solid in the ring (and as an ROH fan since 2005, I expect nothing less from him) and Otunga was by far the best on the mic. I love the dynamics they have between pros and rookies, it's great. I think Christian will get sick of Slater's antics eventually, which is fine by me because I didn't much care for Slater tonight.
Would anyone other than me absolutely love it if this build to a rookies vs pros blow off match at the end of the season?

I assume that they held off Justin Angel so that they could give him a lion's share of the time next week? He seems to be the other crowning jewel of the rookies, and I have to wonder if they dheld him back so that he was not overshadowed on the Daniel Bryan episode.

This was the most I enjoyed Cole on commentary. Josh egging up how awesome Bryan is and Cole saying he hadn't heard of him until he showed up on NXT had me laughing my ass off.

This show needs Kaval! The dynamic he'd have with any mentor would be amazing. As long as it's a Warrior dynamic. ;D

Yeah I think he'll be a star too and it was smart to keep him off next week. Also they hyped him for next week so he clearly has people behind him.

I've just watched the show, and I have to agree.
- Punk's pure apathy towards Darren Young and the whole NXT concept was great. I guess this is all leading to Young joining the SES down the road, or maybe he rebels against them.
- Otunga's finisher sucked balls, but it was interesting how he was focused and determined while R-Truth was rapping. I thought he would be out there yucking it up with Truth, but he came across more as a heel than anything else.
- Liked the way that Carlito and Tarver seemed to have a communication breakdown which led to their loss. Also, the way Christian seems to be out to quell Slater's more flamboyant mannerisms (also, you can call them Team Christian Slater, which is nice).
- The Jericho/Barrett dynamic will be great judging by their promo segment, and I can see what the majority are thinking with the Miz/Bryan partnership also. Great stuff from both those guys.

It's such a simple concept. Pair guys together so that their character traits bring the best out in each other. Give them a platform to show why the crowd should care, and let them wrestle with some of the biggest stars in the world.
Such a great idea.
I do wonder if they can keep this going constantly season after season. I don't think they'd have a problem for the first couple, but eventually surely they'd just be calling guys up who clearly aren't ready to fill spaces. Unless you bring some of the current season's losers back for the next season, or have an NXT 'off season' and fill the Sci-Fi slot with PPV highlights or something for a few weeks.

It's a shame Mick Foley isn't around anymore. I remember in one of his books, he was dismayed that some indy guys think of the gore and such as his main "innovation". Sticking him as a mentor to one of those guys and TRYING to make them do something besides whack a guy with a light-tube would be pretty funny.
Oh, and if this makes it to season 2, I want to see a face mentor stuck with a clear heel-in-the-making. (We might get something like that this time, but I mean 'from the word go'.)

I really enjoyed the show from start to finish. It's been a LONG time since I've seen an episode of WWE programming that I could claim that about.
I was excited about Danielson in the WWE so the show was already made for me by him being featured prominently and clearly being pushed, however there was plenty of other good stuff in there too.

I was very pleasantly surprised. What worried me was this talk about how it'd be like The Ultimate Fighter and more reality show focused. It gave me some bad Tough Enough flashbacks, and I was prepared to hate it. But instead it's a wrestling show designed to get people to understand characters and see how well they do in front of a crowd. Sure there may be objectives some weeks, but they'll still be in wrestling matches. It's not like we'll be treated to vignettes with The Miz taking Daniel Bryan to some bar's open mic night.
I can't think of a way to fault them. I'll just have to see where it goes from here.
