I've been hearing radio adverts for a house show at the Brendan Byrne Arena here in NJ for Dec 28. Matches of Cena versus The Samoan Bulldozer Umaga, Dx versus Randy Edge, and a 4 way ladder match for the IC title Carltio, Hardy, Nitro, and Shelton.
Question is is it worth it for a house show in such a big arena? That and are house shows worth it

Sure why not. House shows are fun cause there are no cameras around and the workers always interact more with the crowd. Bring a sign that makes fun of DX or Orton and Edge and if you are close enuff and if it's good you are more than likley to get a response from them. House shows don't count for anything so the mood is very relaxed and you can screw with them and they will notice.

House shows are better then Raw/smackdown tapings IMO. You never know what your are going to get with those and there are cameras everywhere, commercial breaks, and the matches are always shorter.
Plus the wreslers interact with the fans more.

House shows are lots of fun. More fan interactive, less filler (promos, whacky angles) than the TV shows (usually no promos or angles, actually), and house shows, at least in my experience, tend to draw out the smarkier fans and less of the marks. A crowd of smarks is interesting, to say the least.
Plus, heck, how often do you get to see a ladder match live? I'd go for that.

Pretty much like everyone else has said. I attended a WWF house show in 2001, and got a Rob Van Dam vs. Jeff Hardy hardcore match on par with their PPV matches. I went to SmackDown about 7 months later, and didn't get anything near that good.

I would usually say no, BUT then I read the ladder match on the card. I'd take the gamble and hope those four get enough time to bring the house down. But don't count on that.

House shows are definitely fun! Plus, you get to see stuff the superstars and divas never do on television.

And you can laugh at the morons who bring signs hoping to be on TV.

I go see live wrestling whenever I can.
What is with the signs at house shows as Kash mentioned. although the Smackdown house show I went to a few months ago was even more funny, cuz not only did some have signs, the security chick at the door was actually checking said signs to make sure they were appropriate for.. the hypothetical audience that could view a house show from the fifth dimension I spose. So the signs were deemed appropos for a Mxyztlplk audience.

Well, house shows may get you staff reactions, but they're not as good as televised shows IF you're lucky. I have it on tape, on one Raw in 98, maybe 97, where Goldust was on the stage and was throwing his wig in an oil drum and lighting it on fire, my brother's heckling himin one of the seats on the ramp's right.
(Goldust): ...And my career....and why? Over a wig?!
(my brother): Cause you're a ******! You're a ******, Rhodes!
(Goldust looks at him and shakes his head)
And THAT, is the value of a taping, IF you time it right, and get lucky.

I go see live wrestling whenever I can. Words to live by, for your local indies too. But I just went to a Raw house show Sunday and it was awesome. The wrestlers definitely interact with the fans more, and I have to give a compliment to Orton because he spent more time in the crowd than in the ring.

First off, that sounds like a great card. (I mean that ladder match? Dude!) The interaction is fun. And there is some kayfabe breaking. The one I went to had Matt Hardy (heel) face Orlando Jordan (face). Given the show was in Greenville, NC (about 45min from where Hardy is from), he got the cheers. Hardy grabbed the mic and went to Jordan "Orlado, I know you're supposed to be the good guy, but I'm from this area. Sorry man, you're going to have to deal wth this reaction tonight" (or something like that).
It's a good show, they're inexpensive, and there's also chances to meet some of the stars afterwards (I met Knoble and Nidia at the one I went to. TNA was in the area a few months back and they had a meet&greet)

Well there are worse things to spend cash on, like crack. I missed out on an ECW house show two or three months ago at the Westchester County Center. I think it ended up being Kurt Angle's last match with the WWE. I'm still kind of pissed I missed a chance to go.
