I'll be at the first taping in Wichita so at least I can now say I've seen Danielson live.

I'd say that it would be better if not all got to move on at the end of each season. The potential for more defined characters can emerge.
1) The "can't miss" prospects would be one and done types, establishing them as being on the short track to success.
2) You can have an instance where one mentor (a heel) does not let his prospect graduate because he does not wish to have to compete against him in the WWE. This can get the heel more hear and make the crowd more hot for the guy when he finally gets out from under his mentor's thumb.
3) You can have a narcissistic heel who feels that he is already better than his mentor, leading to plenty of disrespect and heat for the heel and perhaps some respect from the fans for the mentor.
4) You can have the occasional guy who looks like a million bucks but is too lazy to do all the little things that his mentor tells him that he needs to do, making the fans develop an instant dislike to himand generate some actual heat for the new guy.
5) You can also create a role for the next Colin Delaney, where a guy does not seem to have any of the x-factors but works his ass off over the course of a couple of seasons. He would also have built in rivalries with guys from my #4 category.
6) You can also have a sympathetic face whose mentor does not give a damn about him and either does not help him, hinders him, or just abuses him for his amusement.
7) You can also have a face being mentored by a heel, which would play out as a great respect/hate relationship.

I find the notion of Bryan Danielson (and Kaval/Low Ki) needing more training to be infinitely hilarious.
Granted, Kaval would probably need to soften on his strikes and work a safer style. And Daniel Bryan would probably need some mic work. But to have these two at the same level competeing with the other six is just unfair.
Also, can you imagine if someone like Punk had to "mentor" Bryan or Kaval when he's wrestled them regularly in the past?
Or if someone less experienced (like MVP or Swagger) was asked to train them?

Should be a given that Ted DiBiase mentors his brother.

To be fair, Danielson asked to be sent to development after his dark match with Chavo because he felt he was "rusty".

I quoted myself to address more aspects of the show. This could also be a great thing for the mentors. 1) Some guys, particularly Matt Hardy and Miz, have plenty of experience with "reality" shows. These guys can excel in this format if allowed to. 2) It is TV time that would would not be viewed as being better to use on guys like Batista, Taker, etc., so they will get more time dedicated to their character. It will also establish them as more experienced. 3) As I mentioned in my last post, there can be a mentor who uses his position to prevent someone good from reaching the WWE, giving the guy plenty of cheap and easy heat. 4) A face jobber can be paired with a type 4 trainee, where the crowd will want to support the jobber more (and perhaps they can have him take on and beat his trainee to show him that he has more to learn). 5) You can have a mentor that brings his trainee to the ring with him on his usual show (and not just backstage like the other mentors should) and insist that he interferes on his behalf like any other typical lackey. This would work best if the trainee is a face who hates doing this for his mentor. 6) You can have a mentor who previously had no real personality just be an ass to his trainee. This would better establish the guy as someone to dislike. 7) I cannot tell you how much I would love Mike Knox mentoring someone on the fine points of human anatomy.

I like the Ultimate fighter and I think something similar can work for WWE. I never watched ECW simply because I have too much wrestling to catch up on, anyway. I'd watch NXT, though. Something different and fresh.

Outside of Young and Skip, the rest of guys are ready made for the main roster. NXT gives them a fighting chance to get themselves known and become potential breakout stars. Guys like Colt Cabana, Bradley Jay, and Shawn Spears spent years in developmental only to be brought up and released in months later due to the dreaded "creative has nothing for you" excuse.
