According to Bret Hart on his facebook page today:
As far as the WWE goes, all I can say is where the heck is Jim Ross? With everything that has transpired in my three appearances on Raw, it's too bad he hasn't been there to call it. There's nobody that calls it the way Jim Ross calls it and that's the bottom line because I say so.

I was never the biggest Ross fan(I actually think his work between 2000-2005 is his best), him at 20% is better then Michael Cole.

uhhh.. .This overrated wrestling announcer is totally full of himself. Gorilla and Jesse were way better then the crap Lawler-Ross combo. They were good in the beginning but have become extremely stale over the years.
How about they DONT resign him. Commentators dont draw money.. The wrestlers do and he isnt going to be doing head of talent relations so who needs him.
Only reason Jim Ross is around is because there are no great announcers left. Outside of him you got Michael Cole. I mean wow. If Gorilla or Ventura or Heenan were still around they would be the top dogs

as much as i love JR, with the way that striker and grisham have stepped up to the plate, i honestly haven't missed his presence on smackdown. the two have embraced the opportunity provided, and there hasn't really been a "void" left as many expected.
that being said, JR is awesome. if they could get him back for wrestlemania and have a three man team of him, striker and cole (who's alright with decent people sat next to him), that would rock. JR's more or less free to choose whatever path suits his health and situation now, so if he can come back full time, and wants to, i wouldn't mind at all (providing he doesn't bump grish or striker out of the picture), but if it's better for him to stay with his family and focus on his business, i'm ok with that too. he's made a massive contribution to wrestling, and can be proud of what he's done.
but as i said, if he's retiring from the booth, him having a "one night only" appearance at the table for wrestlemania would rule.

that's the bottom line because I say so. Eh? Don't read into it too much, he's just mocking Austin and KEEPING KAYFABE ALIVE BAYBAY! I hope JR comes back for Wrestlemania, I really, really do. The Bret example in particular is an old school storyline that needs an old school type of commentary to go with it - so Raw's Team Chuckles won't do it for me. Things are looking pretty bleak though, it must be said.

The only times I liked JR was when he went ballistic on commentary. Like this: Total aside here from everything going on in this thread, but what about Trips' shirt there? That's an awesome turn of phrase on the back.

That's an awesome turn of phrase on the back. And it was true, too. As for JR, I don't think he's declined to as dramatic a degree as some fans think. It seems like his style got more over the top with the product- when his character got so infuriated over Austin joining McMahon at the end of WMX7, it made a lot of sense seeing that few, if any expected Austin to go down that road. A lot of his crazier Bah Gawds and Sunofabitches were warranted, IMO.

JR is one of the all time best.
King sucks now, but JR is still great. He makes some mistakes but so does King, at least JR still adds to the product and is entertaining.

JR and the King together were the best. No doubt.
