Ross has been going through the motions for a long time now. I still see him as some hick WCW castoff keeping Gorilla's seat warm.

I can't be the only one hoping he goes to TNA? His schtick has ran out in WWE and he just sounds bored. And honestly, I can't blame him. Nothing exciting happens anymore. I like Striker on Smackdown and I'll be bummed if he comes back and takes his spotlight. BUT I will say this...
Raw - Striker and Cole SD - Lawler and JR NXT - Mathews and Saxton
I'd probably do that if I had the chance to switch the roles around. I might even put Todd in Lawler's place however.

With all due respect to his Bell's Palsy, I got tired of looking at him. Ross looks like a bulldog from a kids cartoon. He needs to fade off into the sunset.

The only times I liked JR was when he went ballistic on commentary. Like this:

Angry Jim Ross was amazing! I've been listening to JR since I was a young child. He was the Gordon Solie of his generation. I'm going to miss him like hell when he leaves for good.

JR was the best commentator around at one point but in the past few years, he's started to make a lot more mistakes. I understand he's getting older and has health issues and anyone can make mistakes but he's dangerously close to becoming a cliche of himself (if he's not already there). I know a lot of people won't agree with this but I think Michael Cole has been superior to JR for some years now. Unfortunately, he suffers from being Michael Cole in that a lot of people won't give him credit for anything because he's Michael Cole. I personally think JR should retire before he taints his legacy even further. Whilst I never saw him as the best commentator ever, he's definitely up there. Wrestlemania will seem different without JR losing his voice at the end but things change.

Me too, and I'm, surprised that there's so much JR hate in this thread. I can understand that there are those who don't much care for him, but come ON. You're telling me that having Cole out there on RAW unchecked is a BETTER idea than having Jim Ross out there? If I were to ask for anything to happen in light of this news, it's that King hang up his headset too, and for JBL to come back and take King's spot. Seems like Jibbles was the only one who could control Cole on commentary, and put Cole's idiot ass in check when he said something stupid (See the infamous "SHUT UP!" incident, or even his "Don't you EVER interrupt me again, MAGGLE!" outbursts for proof.) Now, if anything, I fully understand if this latest Bell's Palsy attack has debilitated him even more, and he doesn't wish to return yet...and heck, for all the great years he's given us, I'd gladly say that JR has earned the right to do as he wishes with his career, be it working at home, or around the WWE offices. But to say that it's a GOOD thing that he's gone? NO WAY.

If J.R. is leaving then I demand he gets a sendoff in Wrestlemania and call Wrestlemania this year. It's only fair imo.

Raw doesn't sound right without JR, hell any show doesn't sound right with JR. To me he is THE voice of modern commentary, and I would love if when he comes back to rejoin King on Raw. King hasn't been perfect don't get me wrong, but Cole sucks all the energy out of anything that is going on; it's pathetic. I would love to have JR back

A JR send-off? I'm sure Dr. Hiney & Nurse Slobberknockers are available.

I've never really been big on Ross, and there honestly isn't a place for him anymore, so if he wants to leave, he may as well.

Again, JR is in his late 50s. King is actually older than him. He has a few years left in him.

Jim Ross was, and remains, a great announcer. He is probably the only pure babyface announcer left in wrestling-the rest all seem to have slipped info neutral status. He and Jerry Lawler had an interaction that echoed Vince and Jesee, or Gorilla and Heenan. But sadly, JR's declining health, along with changes in the on air product, have left him a shadow of his former self. I don't think he has become so much a cliche as much as the business has simply moved on without him. This is not the first absence he has taken, whether for health reasons of because WWE was trying out replacements. And the industry has really just moved on and learned to live without him. It is sad but true, and it inevitably happens. I honestly do hope JR calls it a career. He has contributed a huge amount to the business and to WWE as a whole. He deserves a well earned retirement. I only hope that one day soon we will see another announcer as great as him.
