I don't think MVP ever was the future.
Like most guys, he has "career mid-carder" written all over him. He's always been involved in some storyline or other, and missing one Raw isn't anything to worry about - especially as Miz and MVP carried on their fed after the Rumble, and is just as likely to be involved with The Miz at Elimination Chamber. They're not going to give Miz two belts then leave him off the card.
MVP has a good look, good enough on the mic, good enough in the ring, but he'd need to be exceptional with his past (and don't forget the Power Ranger outfit is to hide gang tattoos) to have been considered a future Main Eventer especially in the post-Benoit times.

Look,
They had M.V.P. lose in front of his 'shakey' gf from The View on LIVE TV, in an embarassing fashion, to The Miz of all people.
His day is dead, dawg! He had some nice staredowns but his fueds never really had a great blow-off, which means creative isn't THAT high on him.
I see the WWE does this TEST OF FIRE to certain wrestlers, and if they survive, they get a push and real opportunity/gimmick change/deepening. If their push doesn't work, its back in the dog house/ or they're fired!
MVP will be lucky to be working by the end of 2011.

No, he is (now sadly) the past.

When guys like HHH, HBK, Taker, and their ilk retire, they're going to need guys like MVP to pick up the slack. I'd take MVP as a main eventer over DiBiase or Rhodes any day of the week. He has things they don't: personality, a unique look, & an ounce of charisma.

I think if WWE ever chose to push MVP as upper card/main event, it would work out just fine after a little time.
They may never do so, but if they did, it would work out.

MVP is only 5 years older than Punk and 2 years younger than both Christopher Daniels & R-Truth. At age 36, we shouldn't be shuffling MVP off to the Old Folks Home.

MVP was never the future and unfortunately he never will be. I may be mistaken but doesn't his past prevent him from being able to work in certain places (Japan and a few others, if I remember correctly)? As good as he is, they'll never push him to the moon as they'll never have a champ who can't tour.

They never go to Japan anyways, so that's not why they're not pushing him.

I personally never saw what people liked about this guy. I always hated his outfit. He looked like he was going to go surfing or scuba diving instead of wrestling.
Plus he isn't even that great of a wrestler or a talker.
I just never got it.

I think WWE can get as much out of MVP as they choose to. If they decide to keep him on as a useful midcard wrestler, he will do well in that role. If they were to push him as a main eventer, I think he would deliver there as well. He seems to shine whenever given the chance, but he only gets the chance every once in a while. And with all due respect to the talented Mike Mizanin who many have been calling "the future", I like "Ballin'" better than "I'm Awesome" and MVP is more experienced, has a more interesting personal history, and at present is a more complete wrestler than the Miz. I'm hoping to see their feud continue, and if it does, I'm 100% behind MVP. Now that I think about it, maybe they should've given Kofi's push to MVP instead. Wouldn't stuff like destroying Orton's car and brawling through the arena seem more in character for MVP than Kofi anyway? I don't think they should try to make MVP into another New Jack or anything, but you have to admit it makes a lot more sense for him to be booked as kind of a violent loose cannon than Kofi Kingston. I agree with this. And hey, the WWE wouldn't have HAD to neuter Kofi's character if they'd gone this route, and besides....anyone remember that awesome promo MVP cut on Orton a while back on RAW? The night MVP announced he was gunning for Orton's title? Would have tied in nicely to have Porter pop up again as a thorn in Orton's side. On a side note....was watching one of the WWE's "Greatest Stars of the 90's" discs, and Kofi's on there, in full Jamaican accent, and I cannot stress how stupid it is to hear him talking like that, knowing the way the 'E was about to just totally out that as bogus. I still say they NEVER should have dropped that. It was a big part of what made that character who he was, and without it, he's just generic angry black man #145. At this point, as much as I KNOW it's nails on a chalkboard for everyone (myself included) I have to say it: a "New Nation" would be a step up or Kofi. Hell, at the very least, it would give him a CHARACTER again.

I miss Dee jay kofi I mean the accent and the lacksadaisacal attitude were what made him stand out Exactly. IMO, his "No worries, mon!" attitude was refreshing and made him different from the other athletes on the roster. It's like when they neutered Carlito after they turned him face. Losing his attitude and edge and going all smiley happy and slapping hands was NOT the way to go there, and it made him bland and boring. Kofi is the exact reverse, in that losing his happiness and bubbly care-free Caribbean attitude, and going all surly and angry and accent-less have made HIM bland and boring.

Once they took "Jamaican me crazy, Kofi" away from him, he was done. I really miss his accent. At least they should've given him an African accent to make up for it.

I believe he could be. All you need to do is take him off Raw and bam, he has a chance to become the future.

Really if he still was The Jamaican Buzz Saw he'd be more awesome.
I see MVP getting a JBL like late career run as champ.

He could be, yes.
For whatever reason though, WWE doesn't want to go with it. I dont see them suddenly changing their tune.
