Just... what is the point of those labels? It's something that has been bugging me since I was a kid. Why is it always proudly placed on a product's packaging like it's supposed to magically make it better than the competition? Does it really improve sales? And yeah, I can understand that some people don't think much further than "I saw it on TV so it's good," but if this label is needed in the first place, it means the customers likely to come across it didn't see it on TV, or else they wouldn't need to be noted that it was, in fact, seen on TV right? And even then, some people might buy something just because they saw it on TV, but I doubt enough people act like that for it to be truly meaningful. Most people just buy whatever works best for them, regardless of how much screen time, if any, it got. I just never understood what exactly is the purpose of those things. Also, I was seen in the audience of a local TV show, should I put a "as seen on TV" mention on my Curriculum Vitae when applying for a job? Will that make me a better employee in the eyes of my potential future boss and give me a better chance of getting the job?

If I owned a company and someone turned in an application that said "As seen on tv!" I would hire them in a heartbeat.

And when speaking about your qualifications, be sure to throw in "AND THAT'S NOT ALL!", followed by an offer to have your salary cut in half.

"As seen on TV" is useful simply because it's so vague. Did Oprah say it was awesome? Or was it the subject of a 60 Minutes investigation due to it killing consumers? You don't know. The answer is usually in between; it was on a crappy infomercial.
The label has lost a lot of its effectiveness and is something of a parody of itself in 2010 but if a single extra person is swayed towards the product because of it, then, hey, that's 40 bucks for adding a small logo for free to your packaging.

It just means, this product was also seen in a Infomercial. Ron Popeli is a very smart man, we should not question his abilities in marketing.
