Valid points with my comparisons Schach, but still I think we all recall the sturm and durang about Mr. Mom playing Batman and the 'gay cowboy' playing Joker. Or hell, Clarke Duncan playing Kingpin, and that was solely based on race. Another thing I think to consider- seemingly this is gonna be the origin/WWII era, the unfrozen- man outta time thing to start. That Cap doesn't HAVE to be the legendary figure YET. He can build to that over the course of the films; and in fact a bit of naivete act would work in his favor for when he's first 'unthawed'. It may turn out to be bad casting; I hope not as Cap is my second favorite character, but I'm leaning more positive. Also, personally I didn't find the V.O. version of Cap all that memorable in the Ultimate Alliance games, certainly not to the level of definitive portrayal or anything. I was one of those people who were wondering about why in the hell they picked Heath Ledger to be The Joker. I was wrong in the wrath I bestowed upon the piece. But not the case with Micheal Keaton, as I figured he was an actor that could pull off that role. I remember leaving the theatre with a huge smile on my face after that movie. But going into it I had an argument with my brother on who should play the part. His big claim was that Batman was supposed to have muscles, so his pick of a man who would be better in the role would be Joe Piscopo. I'll let that sink in for a few moments ... His only complaint with Keaton was the muscles and that he hated the batsuit design he had seen. I told him not to worry, it was going to be a great flick.

Look at the Abrams "Star Trek" movie. Kirk was an arrogant, selfish jerk until he had some respect drilled into him, and although he kept some of these personality traits, he managed to completely tone them down when it really mattered. For a Cap that casual fans will actually want to see, he needs to have a bit of attitude. To use a wrestling analogy, have you ever noticed that a lot of fans only seem to care about John Cena when he shows some attitude, and hate him when he's the squeaky clean babyface? It makes sense to hire someone like Evans for Cap. That said, I'm not entirely sure Evans was the best choice physically for the role. Plus, I wouldn't doubt if there are some Ultimate Cap influences as well and he pretty much had an attitude problem at some points if I recall right.

Watch his scene at the end of Sunshine when he's trying to reactivate the reactor (or whatever) when he dives into the coolant.
Everything he said into the walkie-talkie there just screamed Capt America.

I was personally hoping that the stars would somehow align and Brad Pitt would take the role, but I'm game to see Evans, I guess.

One other problem with Evans as Cap...who the f*** are they gonna get to play Bucky then? Shia LeBeouf?
I mean, you need someone younger than Cap....yet still old enough for war...and someone who can convincingly play Winter Soldier later on too.

Provided they put Bucky in there at all. May go the Nolan 'no kid sidekick' route.

But....but.....I mean....I can understand not using Robin in the world of the Dark Knight...but don't they kind of HAVE to have Bucky in there in order for Cap to work? It's one of the KEY rules (or used to be anyway) of the Marvel universe, you know. "Bucky STAYS dead." Plus, it's such a poignant moment in Cap's life..... But you know what? It's Evans playing Cap. Even without being encumbered by a mask, he doesn't emote well at all from what I've seen. He looks like he's chopping an onion.

Chris Evans is 27 years old and can easily pass for being in his early 30's. Bucky should really only look like an 18-year-old kid. How exactly could a guy in his late 20's/early 30's not be a realistic mentor for an 18-year-old? I'm not trying to be a jerk, but it just seems like you're grasping at straws to call Evans bad for the part just because you don't personally care for the choice.

Barring the fact that Cena can not act? He played his role well in 12 Rounds. Not that he was Al Pacino in his prime or anything, but he was enjoyable enough. Haven't seen The Marine, though...nor do I want to.

From what I've heard Bucky isn't in this at all as, depsite Marvel Studios head saying they were going to, that was last Summer and there have been changes and developments since then.
If they do go and have a Bucky though...........I'll pick Anton Yelchin for the role.

No...and it's not just me doing this either, thank you very much. I may be the most vocal "anti-Evans" person in this thread, but I am by no means the only one who thinks he's at best an ODD choice, and at worst, horribly, tragically miscast. What part of EITHER of his turns as Johnny Storm evoke thoughts of Captain America? People knocked me for advocating Cena earlier in the thread, but I have to say, Evans is ONLY a rung or two above John on the acting skill scale. He's a better ACTOR than Cena, sure....but then again, Robert DeNiro is a better actor than Schwarzenegger, too...and they didn't try and cast DeNiro in PREDATOR....or The Terminator, either for that matter. Look, I've said that I hope he proves me wrong...and I hope he does. I just don't think he will. In my own opinion, he's going to look absolutely STUPID in that outfit, his voice is ALL wrong (hell, at LEAST Cena has some bass in his voice...Evans is stuck in that high pitched, pimply faced BMX rider "Hey dude, COOL!" mode), and unless you're going to the Disney channel to cast Bucky....there's really not enough of an age gap there for Evans to be mentor to ANYONE over the age of 15. I'm sorry if I can't be all "rah rah rah" about this, and cheering the good news from the rooftops. But I see a LOT of problems with this. He was ACES as Johnny Storm in FF...hell, I've long thought that he'd also make a great Bobby Drake. Evans is good at comedic stuff, and he's great at playing a snide, smirking, sniping, smart-ass that you just want to back hand really, really, REALLY hard. Hence the great interplay between he and Chiklis' Ben Grimm in FF. However, I don't think ANY of those qualities represent what Steve Rogers and Captain America should be, or how they should be portrayed. What are they gonna have Cap, when he's face to face with the Red Skull, tell him to "Suck my star spangled DICK!" or something? Turn him into Cap-Pool? The "WWI Hero with a Mouth"? THOSE are the visions I get when I think of Evans as Cap.

He may not be Barry White, but his voice doesn't sound nearly as pre-pubescent as you're making it out to be.

Here's an interview he did on the set of FF2....you can judge for yourself whether his voice is going to sound good coming out of the Cap suit. I'm not asking for Bale-levels of " grrrrrrowwwlllllll or hoarseness....but that voice is NOT something I'd associate with command, authority, or scaring Nazi soldiers clean out of their jackboots when they hear it in battle. Another thing...have they considered that if they DO actually end up doing an AVENGERS movie....they physicality is going to be ALL screwed up? Wolverine is going to be able to look Cap right in the eye....Iron Man is going to be the shortest one of all of them...and Thor is going to be absolutely scrawney looking. And the Hulk is going to......no. Nevermind. I'm stopping there. My head hurts badly enough without thinking about Spidey and the Hulk in with that mix.

Wolverine won't be appearing in the Avengers movie. Fox still has the rights to him for the foreseeable future.
Also, I think Evan's voice has gotten somewhat deeper in the 6 or 7 (?) years since the first Fantastic Four movie.

Spidey really doesn't have to appear in an Avengers movie. He's big enough to carry a film on his own. Hawkeye, Ant-Man, or even Vision are far better secondary choices than trying to pull the Spidey card.

Hawkeye, Ant-Man, or even Vision are far better secondary choices than trying to pull the Spidey card. And Sony still has the rights to Spidey, so they couldn't use him anyhow. I LOVE Vision though, but isn't there a great deal of backstory they need to address for him to work? Wouldn't they have to use Wonder Man first?
