I had an idea the other day and discussed it with a wrestling fan coworker. He thought it was stupid. What do you guys think?
WWE could bring a new guy up to Raw from OVW (probably that Russian guy) who can go on a wicked undefeated streak of his own, just like Umaga. He'll start squashing jobbers his first 3 weeks or so and then go into the lower midcard, then the upper midcard, beating opponent afer opponent. He'll get a few challenges here and there (so as to not completely bury his opponent), but he'll always pull out the victory.
Meanwhile, Umaga continues his undefeated streak. Somewhere along the way, Estrada goes to Vince and says his monster needs some... como se dice.... championship gold, and Umaga is booked against Jeff Hardy (or whomever the IC champ is at the time.) Umaga wins, and defends his title against all comers, keeping his undefeated streak alive.
The new guy still has his streak, and maybe WWE could keep track of it (like WCW did with Goldberg.) After a bit, the announcers could make mention of he and Umaga being undefeated. A little while after that, he and Umaga can cross paths and exchange beatdowns. Finally, a no-DQ match could be booked at a major PPV for the IC title. I don't care who wins, but whoever has it should keep it for a while after that, and only lose it in another hotly contested physical matchup. You could elevate Umaga to main-event status, push the hell out of a new guy, and restore credibility to the IC belt all in one program.
What do you guys think? If it sucks, please be gentle.
