Thankfully it hit off of the coast and no damage has been reported.

Firstly, I hope there isn't any loss of life as a result of this earthquake.
Second, I hope that conspiracy theorists aren't using the movements of the Earth's tectonic plates as a reason to support whatever argument that they're formulating to show that the world is going to end in 2012.

End of the world? NO. Something pretty major going down? I think so. But I'm personally taking a "wait and see" approach to this. It certainly appears as though the Earth's activities are picking up steam, though.

This doesn't surprise me in the least. With all the earthquakes on the Ring of Fire lately (2 in Japan, 1 in Chile, 1 in Haiti, Sunday's in Northern Mexico and now this one) the Pacific Plate is on the move. Does this mean the "Big One" is imminent in So Cal? I don't know but I'm not taking any chances, that's for sure.

I wonder if Vancouver will get hit by one, for the past 200 years we've been waiting for the "big one" down there.

Haiti isn't in the Ring of Fire, but still, point stands, too damn many earthquakes so far this year. Hell, here's how bad it is getting, we actually had an earthquake you could feel in Oklahoma this year! We have hundreds each year, but all of them are barely more than a buzzing of the earth, this year, though, we had a quake that shook the earth. Shit is getting bad, yo.

Not to rain on the parade, but there really haven't been anymore earthquakes this year then any other year. The only thing thats changed is that there was a earth quake recently that happened in a highly populated area, and killed a lot of people so now the media, and everyone else by extension are more alert to them. Quick look at the number of annual earthquakes ought to give you an idea of just how many there are a year, and the frequency of each magnitude. earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/eqarchives/year/eqstats.phpJust to give you an idea if you're too lazy to click the link. There are an average of 18 earthquakes a year that are as big or bigger then the one that hit Haiti. There are usually about 134 earthquakes that measure just a notch below at a rating of 6.9 - 6.0.
