So Planet Fitness is running a good special until the 8th. Joining fee is $1 and monthly fee is only $10. After hearing a bunch of good things about the place I decided this is what I want to do. I am in dire need to loose weight and I figure now is the time to do it.
Basically this thread is for me to chart my progress and for others to share weight loss stories.

Good for you!
My fiancee and I started Weight Watchers 2 weeks ago, and in 2 weeks I've lost 9.2 pounds. Its a good start, but I have a long, long way to go.

Nice! I wish I had a PF near me. I joined Anytime Fitness 2 months ago and while I love it, it's $35/month... and I'd rather pay $10. My own progress: down 27 lbs. since January 1st and 2 (almost 3) jeans sizes. This is what I'm doing: -Tracking everything I eat. Yeah, it's a bit anal but I know exactly what I'm eating. There's a site I use that when I plugged in my height, weight, goals, etc., it tells me exactly how much calories, fat, protein, carbs, etc. to aim for every day. It's a nice goal to keep in mind and I find that I don't really want to eat as much crap as before, because I don't really want to have to write it down. -I go to the gym 3 days a week - I use the treadmill for 45 min. and hit the machines for 20 - 30. I also work out at home 3 days a week, usually one of my cardio kickboxing DVDs. I take every Wednesday off because everybody needs a day to just relax and recover. -Water, and lots of it. I no longer drink anything that contains calories. Esp. now that I track what I'm eating, it's just wasted calories when I could put it towards what I'm eating. So I only drink water and tea now, and at least 8 glasses daily.

Planet Fitness, where I live, is a horrible place to go for a workout. Located in a violent part of town, its hard to find a reasonable parking space, plus all the weight machines are in use, so all I can do is cardio. Biggest waste of $99 (for one year) EVER!

I am in dire need to loose weight and I figure now is the time to do it. Basically this thread is for me to chart my progress and for others to share weight loss stories. If you have the will power, and are willing to work then I suggest that you check out this website before buying a gym membership. scoobysworkshop.com/Gym memberships are fine and everything but they really don't have much of a success rate since people aren't in the gym 24/7, and many people can't get to the gym every night. And usually after the sheen wears off people stop going altogether. The website I linked you to is run by a regular dude who works a regular job that requires him to sit in front of a computer most of the day. Don't be fooled though this guy knows what hes talking about when it comes to fitness. His website is free and he gives people great tips on workout regimes, and nutritional advice to help you lose weight even if you work a normal job. His methods are inexpensive, and most importantly they work. He is very realistic when it comes to weight loss and how much natural muscle people should expect to gain while doing his workouts. I suggest anyone here who is interested in losing weight should check this website out.

Gotch, that is a helpful site.
Motivation wins out over anything though.
As long as you don't let yourself drop your routine, it's easy to get in shape.

Personally I think that most people are more inclined to workout if they have the knowledge to do it at home for cheap. At the end of the day though getting in shape and STAYING in shape is more about changing your life style and diet, then it is about what kind of work outs a person does. The main thing is to do at least a half hour of cardio a day. After that the rest is just gravy.

I find that I'd rather do other things at home but going to the gym forces me to be active. Plus I look forward to getting out of the house after being carless for over a year.

I think at home a lot of people have distractions... which is what would curtail them from actually exercising. The good thing about a gym is that once you get there, you KNOW you have to exercise. The problem is, actually getting there, since it's fairly easy to put off going.

I suggest anyone here who is interested in losing weight should check this website out. Scooby is a great guy, his YouTube stuff is a must. And yes honestly if you have the will to work out, a pair of dumbells, and doing things like simple crunches and pushups are all you really need to get in pretty good shape, no gym membership required.
