In the scene where the Green Goblin has J. Jonah Jameson by the throat and is demanding the name of the photographer of Spiderman. He doesn't sell out Peter Parker. I never really noticed that until watching it today. What I am saying is, J. Jonah Jameson is a good man. This is a thread where we can appreciate the awesomeness of the real hero of the Spiderman universe.

Yeah, that was a nice touch. In the hands of lesser writters, JJ would get flanderized into a screaming newspaper editior.

I don't know if I'd call JJJ a hero exactly, but the potencial is certainly there. I think if he could get get over himself he'd be better.

Triple J's only a dick when it comes to Spidey. Other than that, he's a pretty good dude in the comics.

Even toward Spidey they've shown JJJ in his private moments that it's not so much he hates him as he really envies him, and wishes he could emulate him; but that's all buried under bluster and bile as it's something he doesn't like to admit about himself.
Sidenote: Even as they're rebooting the franchise, they need to keep J.K. Simmons, he IS Jonah.

This. JJJ does good things. He's been a huge civil rights advocate for...ever. And he's one of the few newspapers (Or more accurately was, after One More Day, but...semantics) to openly go after Kingpin as a crime lord. Plus he was a friggin' war hero. (Or did that get retconned? I can't remember.) But with Spidey doing as much good as he does, it makes JJJ feel like he's not doing enough. That's the way I've always read it, at least.

Yeah.
Even if you take on JJJ as a dick, it still makes sense. Why would he give up Parker? He's a cash cow for Jameson when it comes to selling papers in one of the most strongest and open markets. Jameson is a marketing genius, just like Stan Lee. Whether or not he really hates Spidey deep down, he understands that the web-slinger equates to interest and thus sales. That makes job security for him and everyone around him.

It's a good reflection of their actual relationship in the comics, as was noted. The first thing that came to mind was the time that Parker was a suspect for a series of murders during the infamous "Clone Saga" and JJJ payed for his legal defense in a rather secretive, low key manner.
