Wrestlecrap members, if you've served in the Armed Forces of whatever country you may live in this is a thread for you. I have, and I'd like to share experiences and what not. I served in the U.S. Army from October 1996 to September 2001, spending most of that in the 1st Cavalry Division at Fort Hood, TX. I was deployed to Bosnia-Herzegovina from 1998-1999. Army, Navy, Air Force, USMC, even Coast Guard! Whatever you are/wee, let's talk!
Warning: Do NOT even think about turning this thread political.

Air Force April 2003-2009. Worked with the ICBMs. Basic at Lackland AFB, Tech School at Vandenberg AFB, then PDS'd to Francis E. Warren AFB.
Got out on destroyed knees, and am using the Post 9/11 GI Bill to attend Texas Tech University (information on that is in the College Major post).

US NAVY veteran...served from June of 2000 (they got me right out of high school) to 2006, and only left because they...well....they took mah jerb!
(Not really. The NAVY merely merged the once proud and independant Dental Corps with the Hospital Corps, and they turned all DTs into Corpsmen. So when my EAOS came up, I made like a tree and got out of there.)
Now y'all know a bit more about me. ;D

US Army Infantry 2003-2008.
Did a combat tour in Iraq with the 10th Mountain Division. Got wounded, got a Purple Heart, came back to the states to teach at the Javelin Anti-Tank School at Fort Benning. Ended up having too many health problems and got out to go to school on Uncle Sam's dime.

US Army, SPC/E4, 31U (Signal Systems Support Specialist; aka I worked w/ the commo unit), from March 2001 (the Tuesday after the end of the Monday Night Wars) to January 2005, including a one-year tour in Baghdad in 2004 (shipped off the night after WM20) (just when I was about to transfer to South Korea).

But I'm transferring schools this summer to one in Hawaii, where I'll be using the new 9/11 GI Bill and grants to pay for most of it. Also, if anyone is interested about reading how I got my Purple Heart, I wrote a memoir about it for school and put it online for friends and family to read about...just one of the many insane days in the early days of the war. highroad214.blogspot.com/ go here to read it

Hah. I'm a mere Finnish conscript. I spent half a year enjoying -25C degrees winters routing cables to forests and standing on guard for 3-8 hours.

Yeah, I've been using the old GI Bill which is pretty straight forward. I'm poor, so I generally get enough grant money each semester to not have to worry about using the GI Bill for anything more than living money for the month. I have been reading up on the new one though.
