Ok so after surfing the web for effective ways to lose belly fat, and getting tired of seeing stuff like this "Wanna lose weight? Sign up for this and buy this and do this!" And seeing as I've seen a lot of people saying they have lost weight on here, what is the most effective way to lose belly fat? I trust and value your guys' and gals' opinions much more than other people around the net, so what has worked the most for you all?

Eat less, work out more.
I recently lost a lot of weight. It wasn't a conscious decision, but sort of an accident - however, I feel that this piece of advice can help a lot.
Being poor meant I had to save as much food as possible. For that reason (and another health reason) I had to train myself to stop eating as soon as I was full. No "one more bite". As soon as I hit that full point, I stopped eating and put the rest of the meal in the fridge. No exceptions whatsoever.
Some more things: -Eat two meals a day. Breakfast, and one big lunch/dinner combination around 4/5. Snack the rest of the day. There are quite a few cultures that eat this way, and it seems to have positive results. -Eat fresh fruit. Lots of it. If you're eating snacks throughout the day, you want it to be fruit. It tastes delicious, and many fruits have a good amount of fiber, which helps the digestive system which can keep weight down! If you want to have candy, eat fruit instead. Berries and apples are my favorites. -Sunflower seeds are good, too. Don't get the fancy flavored ones, just normal, and try to find low sodium/salt unless you want to massively dehydrate yourself like I've done. -On that note - keep hydrated! Your body has a hard time telling the difference between hunger and thirst. -And don't drink soda. Once every two weeks or so is okay, but keep it low. Water is the best liquid ever, drink lots of it. If that's too boring, gatorade! Or get no-sugar added 100% juice. If you want carbonated, go for sparkling cider (non alcoholic, obviously). They have lots of flavors of cider to choose from, too. -Lower your meat intake. Eat as little beef and pork as possible. Try to stick to poultry and seafood. Westerners eat WAY too much meat - keep in mind that we evolved from scavengers, who would get meat only occasionally. We're designed to eat meat, but not nearly as much as we do.
And exercise. Do it a lot.

Except one question pertaining to the soda, which I think I've heard it's just as bad if not worst but is diet soda an ok, or is that something to stay away from too? Thanks for all that advice though, very very helpful!!

My roomate lost 20 lbs in one month using his diet and the px90 workout program. That's the most he has ever lost in a month. I'm not sure what all he eats but I know he eats pasta and bagels and popcorn. If he orders pizza he gets a small one. He eats Subway veggie sandwhiches because he's a vegetarian.
My mom and sister both lost weight just by going on a walk and eating half size portions of what they usually eat.
IF you eat vegetarian or vegan I can post Mac Danzig"s (from the ufc) routine as far as eating goes.

No I'm not a vegetarian, I know that is supposed to be a major help in losing weight but no I'm not.

The bad thing about vegetarians is a lot of them don't get enough protein. It can be unhealthy.
The px90 workout program is touted as being very good. Once I get some medical issues taken care of I'm going to be joining my roomate and my friend in doing it.
It's a lot of work but all you have to buy is some dvd's. They may use dumbells too. I know my roomate and friend both went out and bought some.

I've also seen informercials for that P90 workout thing, and it looks INTENSE, something you defintely have to stay committed to. Although 90 days out of your whole entire life isn't a lot of time, so maybe that's something I should give consideration. Do you know if it was expensive or not?

You can be those and still eat s*** that's rolled in flour and fried in oils. My biggest thing in the 50 pounds I've lost is just been eating healthier and balancing my diet and cutting out all the snacking I used to do. Honestly, grilled chicken and sushi are two major staples in my current diet. In the last 5 months I've gone from 310 pounds to 260 currently.

One thing to note, you cannot lose belly fat. It is a myth that you can target fat loss. Your body just stores the stuff whereever it does. You can only lose fat in general which should cut back on your belly fat. Don't be surprised or discouraged if despite all your hard work you don't lose pants/shirt sizes as quick as you think you should. Just keep track of how the weight you are losing and even more importantly the muscle you are putting on. Once every couple weeks just test your endurance at a set activity and record it somewhere. You will be surprised how steady that will climb as you get healthy. Also if you are really out of shape you might start to gain weight at a point in your workouts. This is because muscle weighs more than fat. That's a good sign if your getting fitter. Don't look at one objective like pure weight loss or dropping sizes or you might end up getting discouraged.

A lot of good advice already, but I'll give you what I've learned when I went from 200lbs to 140lbs.
1) The most basic thing: Calories in < Calories out, if you want to lose weight. You have to count your calories and make sure you're burning more calories off than your taking in. Get off the computer, put your XBOX in storage and join a gym. I'd burn 700-900 calories on an elliptical when I was trying to lose weight. That combined with daily walking around stuff really helped me out.
2) Diet: No more potatoes. Potatoes have Vitamic C and that's about it really. Eat an orange instead. Cut the fries, baked potatoes - all that stuff. Also, I cut out dairy. Our bodies aren't really compatible with cow milk anyway. If you need to, switch to rice or almond milk, after a few weeks you won't notice the difference. Your meat portions should be no bigger than the size of your fist and your side dish should grilled or steamed vegetables (green is good, corn is meh) and small - SMALL - serving of BROWN rice. When you go out to eat replace your fries with veggies - or nothing at all, because I can almost gurantee you if they don't offer a healthy veggie side dish, then whatever the main thing is has way too many calories.
3) Mindset: A "diet" is not something you do for a few weeks and then go back to your old habits. Your diet is what you do every day, for the rest of your life! You need to permanently change your diet. "Excercise" is the exact same way. You can't just do it for a few weeks and expect anything to happen. It has to become a part of your weekly routine for the rest of your life! Even if you can't run every day for an hour - you should be able to squeeze in 20-30 mins for something (yoga, pushups, some kind of stretching routine).
4) Toruture: Is what it will feel like. You are basically starving your body of what it used to get - a lot of unnecessary calories and putting it through physical strain that it really isn't used to. Don't listen to any detractors who try to tempt "Oh man, just have some cake!" "Relax and have a cheeseburger." These things are alright once in a while (meaning once every couple of weeks), but to really lose weight you have to become the CM Punk of food. A Straight Edge Foodie!
It will seem like what you're eating isn't enough to sustain your body, but trust me, most people take in way too many of the wrong calories and not enough of the right ones. You can survive on some fruit and gronola in the morning; a Cliff bar mid-morning; a light lunch (I used to eat sardines on whole with toast w/spinach or broccoli); another small, healthy snack mid after noon; and a sensible dinner (grilled chicken, like a lot of people have mentioned).
*Losing 1lb to 1.5lbs per week is healthy. Too much more than that and you need to adjust your diet/excerise routine.
**Also regarding BELLY FAT. You lose fat in the reverse order you put it on. So belly fat is usually the first thing you put on and as such - it will be the last thing you loose.
You have to loose all the fat pretty much everywhere else on your body before you loose belly fat.

I recently had a minor health scare; my family has a slight history of type 2 diabetes, and I had to take a medication that could raise my blood sugar levels.
Soon as I heard that, I cut out most of the sugar in my diet (good thing I had already given up regular soda years before) and started working out more, so since around the middle of February I've dropped about 12 pounds.
Now, I have an advantage; I work a job that grants me a nice chunk of free, workout-available time during the day, but I'm making the most of it by trying to work out 90 minutes-to-2 hours every day that I can.
Honestly, outside of reducing my sugar intake and focusing more on saying "that's enough" at certain meals, I haven't done a whole ton to change my diet. Maybe I've eaten a few more salads, but nothing radical. However, it still pays to consider spending the money to eat more whole wheat options instead of white flour, eating egg whites instead of regular eggs, etc. Simple, smart choices like that go a long way.
Really, once you get committed to dropping pounds, you'll realize that it doesn't take "dieting" to do it, because you'll start realizing that what you WERE eating before was probably a bit ridiculous. For example, there's really no reason to go to a bar/restaurant with your buddies and order an appetizer and an entree, unless you're splitting it. There's no need for dessert every day, which I've combated by just having maybe a single teaspoon-ful of Nutella if I want something sweet.
Another big factor for me, since I had a blood sugar issue: water. Odds are you're not drinking enough of it. Start your day off with two decent-sized glasses of water before you eat anything, does a lot of good.
Finally, while it's smart to be conscious of the amount of calories you take in, it doesn't pay to obsess over them, which I admit is a trap I can fall into sometimes. The fact is, if you improve the way you're eating and take to working out at least 30 minutes a day (aim for closer to 60 if possible), your metabolism is going to improve after a little while. Be smart, be informed, obviously, but obsessing isn't the way to go.

There's no way to lose fat in one specific part of the body, you'll lose it opposite of how you gained it. As the belly is the first place fat is stored, it's notoriously hard to get rid of it there.

So true, and I hate it. lol My stomach is where I want to see the results the most, and it's taking forever. My thighs and legs are getting muscular, and my hips are freakin' bony as hell now - but my stomach is taking forever. I wish I could create my own size of jeans because they're super baggy in the legs/thighs, but fit perfectly in the stomach.

A lot of great advice in this thread, thank you very, very much everybody I think I can do it, the only thing that I have to get through my head is it's not a temporary fix, you have to change you. Again thanks for all the advice everybody, I'm also glad to hear that it has worked for a lot of people in here. I think the main thing that drives people like me away from diets and all that is all the information out there, and it's all conflicting. The information I've gotten in this thread is actually REALISTIC, and there's not talk of MIRACLE PILLS AND 100 POUNDS IN 1 WEEK!!!!!!! It's hard to get realistic and helpful info on the web without seeing all that stuff so again, thank you everybody

Yeah I'll agree with you, everything promises rapid weight loss and all these crazy claims, and that's one reason why a lot of people stray away. The Biggest Loser people may lose weight faster than most people because they have 24 hour access to a gym, but weight loss is will power first of all.
