The brother of Oscar winner Mo'Nique said Monday on Oprah Winfrey's talk show that he molested the actress when they were children and he wants to apologize to her. Gerald Imes said on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" that the molestation continued for a year or two, starting when he was 13 and Mo'Nique was 7 or 8. "I abused and betrayed the trust of another sibling, my sister, my blood sister," Imes said. He apologized to the actress, saying "I'm sorry, Mo'Nique. I'm sorry." Imes said he decided to appear on Winfrey's show to apologize to Mo'Nique and bring their family back together. Imes said he himself was molested and he was using drugs and alcohol at age 11. "Hopefully somewhere, somehow as siblings we can come back together as brother and sister," he said. Mo'Nique has discussed her brother's molestation in previous interviews. She hasn't responded to a request for comment sent to her publicist. Winfrey said Mo'Nique didn't want to be a part of the interview but gave Winfrey her blessing. "She said if your expressing what you had done to her could save one family then it would be worth it," Winfrey told Imes. Mo'Nique's parents also appeared on the episode. "It was such a heartbreaking thing to accept," said her mother, Alice Imes. news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100419/ap_en_ot/us_winfrey_mo_nique

I hate to say this, but there would be no way I could accept this apology and I would also wonder what the parents had to gain by being behind her brother.

There's nothing like apologizing to your sister for molesting her....not to her face, though. Just on Oprah's talk show.

I love it when being on Oprah instantly "absolves" a person.

This reminds me of when Jennifer Hudson got to be at the Superbowl because her cousin murdered some kid. (IIRC)

Oprah exploits people constantly, when is somebody going to call her out? She's not the queen bee people treat her as, she makes money off of other people's very real issues and, yes, EXPLOITS them.

She's a billionaire with a cult/army/legion of chubby housewives that I honest to God believe would go out into the street and kill the first person they saw if she told them to do it. Nobody is going to call her out because she's got money, power, and followers.

Nobody is going to call her out because she's got money, power, and followers. I remember when VH1 had a countdown list of the 50 or 100 "Pop Culture Icons of the Century". And they named Oprah #1. Above Elvis and The Beatles. My brain exploded right there. Yeah, I know those countdowns are poppycock, hogwash and rubbish. But come on. And I have a feeling if this was 80 years ago, those housewives would be following the little guy with the Chaplin mustache because they can't have an independent thought.

Passing off as fact? I wrote IIRC for a reason. I figured people would get what I meant, even if I was wrong. Ok her mother, brother, and nephew(a kid), were murdered by her Brother-In-Law. After which she got booked for the Superbowl.

Give us a good episode about this.(the one about her vagina and poop hole having voices doesn't count)

I for one refuse to believe that there's a human being who'd actually have sex with Mo'Nique, willingly or not. Is there even a set of standards in the world of molestation? Can't there be?
For the benefit of the P.C. marauders likely already climbing upon their noble steeds, I'm kidding of course.
