So this song came on TV today and... I just don't know what to say. It's not bad enough that IMO the song is nothing short of horrible but than the Beatles stuff at the end? Just no! You're not John Lennon so let's not try to be okay? And saying "super duper-cute" is a way to make sure nobody takes you seriously, and hand tattoos don't make you awesome. Anybody ever heard of this Never Shout Never band? Sorry for the rant but...... just wow.

The girls at work think the guy is cute. They say nothing about the band itself, just that he's cute. That should tell you everything you need to know.

Honestly, it wasn't all that bad. The lyrics aren't genius, and at best they come off as a poor man's Camera Obscura, but it's better than most of the "Why do people like this crap?" tracks that are posted here (BrokenCYDE, The Millionaires, Kesha, etc).

I don't hear anything wrong with it. It's standard acoustic pop, if a bit unremarkable.

His stuff is mostly good. The new cd is sickeningly cute, but it is really well made.
His ukulele EP is freaking fantastic though.
And this song is good. You just don't like it.
The video is awful though.

Thus my use of "his" and not theirs". But yeah lots of people make this mistake, same with Owl City. Both are one dude.

Who name dropped Camera Obscura? That person is a hero...
Never Shout Never's getting a lot of pub...I suppose...lately. He was on the cover of the 100 bands to watch out for in 2010 issue of Alt Press, and he's on Warped Tour. Haven't heard much yet so can't properly judge.

I hate music like this that has become popular in the last ten years. This singer songwriter crap needs to stop being popular and being played on the radio stations nonstop.
I'd take Lady Gaga or Ke$ha over that any day.

Of all the crap I've put up with from this forum, this only got 22 seconds. To put that into perspective, the video games song got 36 seconds and brokenCYDE got a full minute.

Yeah, among all the high school and college kids around here, he's getting pretty big, but this has been a big mainstremo area since the Clarity/So Impossible/Too Bad You're Beautiful period. And I know, I know, he's acoustic pop, whatever - aside from the really obvious, on the nose Beatles influence, it's indistinguishable from most of what's been on Vagrant or Fueled by Ramen for the past decade. But I don't think this is the worst thing ever. It's not great, but I think everyone here's just reacting to how cutesy it is over the music itself. It probably is cloying or irritating for most, but I have a high tolerance for that stuff. I like having a bit of tweeness or cuteness break up the monotony of my day, as long as it's more on the Rose Melberg side of things than the Juno side. And why is this thread still going on, post-Camera Obscura reference? I vote we retire for the day and all listen to Let's Get Out of This Country.

Between the Replacements and Camera Obscura posts, you're quickly become a hero around these parts in my mind. Also what area are you at where high school and college kids are listening to bands like this? I would love to be in an area like that for school, as my hometown is trapped in the 80's.

Haha, the feeling is mutual, believe me. I'm always excited to meet anyone else who's into interesting music. I'm in Central NY, not far from Utica - it's a weird area, musically. Our local modern rock station is still trapped in post-grunge and nu-metal, so for local concerts we're still getting bands like Breaking Benjamin and Korn that wore out their relevance years ago. Most of the area's pretty poor, which seems to translate into a lot of fans of post-grunge, modern country, modern rap, and classic rock. Occasional pockets of metal, too. The kids who are a bit better off (meaning straight-up middle class), though, tend to lean towards mainstremo, post-hardcore and generally the whole Hot Topic scene. I think we're pretty intent on skipping cereal box indie altogether, which is fine by me. I got enough of that at college, it's nice to be in a place where the words Vampire Weekend are a non-sequitur. So yeah, it's not the greatest area in the world musically. Seems like a lot of the high school kids are also heavy into stage musicals these days from what I've seen subbing around here, but that's been pretty consistent the past few years everywhere. I don't get it. It's a generation of pansies.

I'd take Lady Gaga or Ke$ha over that any day. I can see why it is popular (from this thread even) because they obviously have fans, but I've never been a fan of this acoustic pop stuff. It's just so cute, I really dislike it. I didn't know Never Shout Never was just that one guy though, that's different from other stuff I guess. Not my cup of tea but I'm glad to see people enjoy this music, varitiey is never bad

I have known of Camera Obscura for a long time but never listened to them. Good stuff, damn near Motown actually. Kind of Nu-town I guess, like The Noisettes.
