The title really says it all. I've always been a sort-of outside admirer of rap and hip-hop, mostly knowing the radio stuff. So hook a brother up!

Tupac - All Eyez On Me, however if you don't want to dive into an actual album right now get his greatest hits.
Pretty much any Tupac or Notorious B.I.G. record, you really can't go wrong with any of them.

I'll recommend some underground stuff.
Tech N9ne - Anghellic, Absolute Power, Everready, Killer, and K.O.D are all great albums. I'd say Absolute Power is the best though.
Potluck - If you're into stoner music at all then you'll probably like them. Welcome to Humboldt is my favorite album from them.
Anything from Bone Thugs N Harmony
Canibus is really good in his own way. Not the smoothest rapper out there, but the guys vocabulary and metaphors are unmatched.
Chino XL is pretty awesome. The guy has some hilarious punch-lines in his verses and his skits are usually really funny too. Not a comedy act or anything like that, but he has some mean humor.
