Funimation has what looks to be all of Initial D Fourth Stage uploaded to their youtube account, subtitled and dubbed, in order to promote the upcoming DVD release next month. It seems strange that they're giving it away for free, but hey whatever. I'm happy to be seeing it again for the first time in forever, and seeing an Initial D series dubbed by people who aren't complete morons is a nice change too. I'm...happy with this.

I want to take the soundtrack for Initial D and put it to me doing mundane things. Instant success.

When are the Funimation dubs getting released anyway? I haven't heard anything and I'm getting antsy.
At this point, I'd almost settle for the Tokyopop DVDs, but I can't find them anywhere anymore (and I'd only watch the subtitled versions anyway).

4th Stage just doesn't do it for me. That's the point where the focus shifted from the characters almost completely onto the cars and "DORIFTO". And I realize that's most of the appeal to a lot of people, but I think I just burned out after 39 episodes (never saw the 3rd stage movie, though).

Either way, they're out next month. Right now their official word is the 11th. (edit just now) ...never say the T word again *shudders off bad memories* I want to take the soundtrack for Initial D and put it to me doing mundane things. Instant success. I've actually done this. I used to listen to it while mowing the yard. And while doing other bore work. And I do every now and then listen to it while I drive, and just cruise around with this stupid smirk on my face.

Initial D is the only anime I can actually say I'm a fan of. I've seen 4th stage all the way through and been meaning to watch the others (tried to watch the live action movie, but it was bad).
I've also listened to some of the soundtrack while doing 35 mph through town in my 1990 Ford Tempo. The soundtrack makes anything seem exciting.

PS I was incorrect, it isn't all of Fourth Stage they've uploaded, but still a fair amount of it. I think through episode fourteen or so. That still seems like a helluva long preview for a show they're soon to release on DVD, heh. Looks like Third Stage is due out May 11th too. And the next installment of Fourth Stage on June 29th.
Sketchy, but I'm not seeing new versions of the two earlier seasons, just the old releases bearing both Tokyopop and Funimation's logo. That may be bad news for me. I was hoping for a re-dub of those seasons using the cast they have now.

I was hoping for a re-dub of those seasons using the cast they have now. The old releases weren't necessarily as "butchered" as everyone complains about, at least once they came out as full season sets, unless you're absolutely DEAD SET on watching them dubbed. People like to say "But even if you watch it subtitled, the music is still gone and the superfluous video effects are still there!!!", and that's not true. The switched music is only present in the dub, same with the video effects (unless you personally set the re-done video to the subtitled track). It was originally a problem because the dual video tracks meant only 3 episodes per disc, but once it was released as season sets that didn't matter so much. Again, it only really affected someone if they were absolutely dead set on having it dubbed (and yeah, if you are, then fair enough).

I plan to just wait it out a bit and see what happens. At any rate I still need to replace my rather dubious boxed sets of the first two seasons, so having them in clearer quality and subtitled may not be a bad thing.
