So I saw Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey(AKA Go To Hell) yesterday. As a sequel I was expecting something between Excellent Adventure and Biodome. As a matter of fact I'm not even that fond of the original. But I had nothing to watch. So I turned the lights off and popped it in...
IT BLEW MY MOTHERf***ING MIND!
I was so not expecting to see some of the things I did. Seriously, this movie is one of the best directed, best edited, most creative movies I have ever seen. The settings omg the setting, I loved them so much. The scene where they're being driven to the desert with Faith No More being played, never thought it would come off so dream like and creepy. When they die and they stand up in grey cloths looking all blue colored, simple yet beautiful. The falling in the endless pit, very cool. The hell scene however was the Pièce de résistance. WOW those sets! Push ups scene, grandma kissing scene, excellent, as well as the building for the Bunny scene. When the grandma/bunny/sergeant are running down the corridor... so simple but it might be one of my favorite scenes ever.
There were a lot of other good things. Heaven was cool. Death added a cool dynamic to their relationship. Station and the robots he built were sweet. Their house was very well decorated. The story was all over the place, but what else could you expect? That just added to the fun. The only parts that were weak were the beginning and the end. *sigh* Cliche bright colored Styrofoam clothing. The end really went to hell, but once again, you had to expect it. Having accepted what I was going to get plotwise before watching, it didn't really affect the movie for me. The supporting cast served it's purpose but Death was great. George Calin filled his role well, and the main villain gave off an excellent Darth Vader vibe. Bill and Ted were once again played excellently by their actors.
I never would have dreamed of saying this... but... Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey is a masterpiece in its own way.
(I know I'm marking for some stupid 80ish(91) kid/teen movie, but whoever put this together really deserves some credit.)
