There is a sports radio/tv show called all bets are off with Bruce Drennan in the Ohio area. I talked about the Columbus Crew/MLS being considered a major us sport along the big four (NFL,NBA,MLB,NHL). Bruce wasn't on the show, but his substitute, Chuck, said that it is only major sport if your league champion gets to visit the white house like the other four. Funny thing was when the Crew won the MLS cup in 2008, they actually did go to the white house and Chuck didn't know. He the replied,"Quick name me a player on the Columbus Crew", which I thought was funny. So guys, is MLS a major sport in the US or is it just and only the big four I said?

It wasn't even when David Beckham was there, so it's definitely not now. It should be.

No. It's not even top 6 or 7.
It's NFL NBA MLB NCAAF NCAABB NASCAR NHL then MLS. Hell, MMA and golf might be ahead of it too.

Soccer is not now, has never been, and never will be, a major sport in the United States. You'll see a lot of people becoming major soccer fans with the World Cup coming up, but, just like with swimming in the Olympics, it will be fogrotten about as soon as it's over. Personally, I find soccer to be one of the most boring sports out there, and want to punch someone whenever I hear them call it football. It's acceptable in other parts of the world, but not here.

If we're talking about the number of people who care, then I'd say those two are definitely above MLS. Hell, MLS would probably be competing with poker for how many people care about it. The only exception to this is the World Cup, where people suddenly care for about two weeks, then go back to not caring.

Radio hosts are great at coming up with arbitrary rules for whatever they're talking about that they either think are clever or funny.
That said, no, it's not a major sport.

But it IS football. You move the ball with your feet. It has more of a right to call itself football than American Football does....seriously, the only positions in American Football that even kicks the ball, the Kickoff Kicker, the Punter, and the Placekicker, are the LEAST APPRECIATED positions in the sport. Though technically we(as a world) have solved this "problem" long ago, as soccer is officially Association Football.

Not yet. That said, I wouldn't be surprised if the MLS overtakes the NBA in the next 5 to 10 years.
BTW: Football (as in soccer) is supposedly named that because it's played on foot, as opposed to horseback polo.

No it's not a major sport. MMA gets more coverage than MLS on ESPN which is the leading sports network no matter how much they suck.

The only way MLS is over taking NBA is if one of two things happens: 1) The US wins the World Cup between now and 10 years in the future. 2) All the NBA teams someone file for bankruptcy at around the same time and the league falls into financial ruin. #1 has a greater chance of happening than #2.

I don't even think every MLS team broadcasts their games in their own area.
Boston's National Lacrosse League team outdraws the New England Revolution.

It barely qualifies as a minor sport; and I don't say that to disparage the guys that play it, but interest level and/or reporting is virtually ( to use the lexicon) nil.

BTW: Football (as in soccer) is supposedly named that because it's played on foot, as opposed to horseback polo. It's one of the 2 theories. One is a sport played on foot The other is a sport where the ball is moved by the feet. There has never been any real evidence that either one is more correct than the other.
