Inspierd by this post in another topic When there's too many threads on people's deaths and the "what/who do you hate the most" threads. Some nights it's so depressing just reading down the names of threads. I'd love it if there could a be a"what/who you like the most" and "living life is awesome" thread day instead. Just for one day. This has been on my mind for the last couple of weeks. Thanks for reading and making this thread. Say humongous yeah yeah yeah to positivity and love instead. I hope you don't minde me quoting you. For me it's being an uncle. I love the kids to death and have had a hand in raising them. It's cool if you can't break a tie. I know some people would want to list being with thier partner and something else or may have two equally apeasing accomplishments. The main thing is just to have those great things in life stand out.

Personal accomplishment:
Winning my school spelling bee in 6th grade.
Other than that, I haven't been able to do much because of my mental issues...

Back in high school, I was always the shy kid who didn't talk to people very much. There wasn't/isn't much that I'm very good at. Except I feel I'm a really good singer. My senior year of high school, I was a part of our school choir. One afternoon the director was holding audtions for a solo in a choral arrangment of the song "Old Man River". This wasn't a one line solo, this was almost the whole song and the entire chorus would just be backround singers. It was my turn to sing the song in front of the whole choir. After I sang the entire choir erupted! Everyone ran up to me, shook my hand, girls hugged me with tears in their eyes. I was stunned, because up to this point, no one had ever noticed me really. I was always the person that was kinda invisible. I almost teared up because that was the first time I figured I was actually good at something.
So that's a thing in life that makes me keep going. That I am good at something and that I have the ability to make people happy with that talent.

Making art. By no means am I implying that I'm talented, but it's the only thing I'm good at. Whenever I crank out something that people dig, it's totally worth it.

My greatest joy?
I have two. One is my cat Paris. She may be at times a little rowdy and enjoy clawing my legs at times, but it's her way of playing. I look into her eyes and just see a gentle soul who loves her Daddy very much.
My other? Even if we're broken up, still having my ex as a friend. I'm sorry we're not together, but I wouldn't trade the last four years for anything and I'm glad I still have an ear and a shoulder on her part.

Either my writing, or music.
I get such a sense of achievement when I finish work on something that I loved writing, even though so far it's been for little more than personal use. Someday I'll make it.
And I couldn't live without music. It's one of those things that makes life worth living.

I'm with you guys on the art and music stuff. I love when people say they like a song I wrote because they can relate to it.
The sixth grade spelling bee is a cool thing man. You'll find something. I have really bad mental issues myself. Legit.
That's a really awesome story about chorus. That is most definatly something to hold onto and be proud of.
I agree with the cat too. Pets can often be like children. I have a new puppy coming soon and I'm already showing pictures of her to people.
Staying friends with an ex can be very very hard. I'm glad that is working for you.

OK, I do have to mention my attempts at poetry.
It has no rhyme or reason to it and much of it's really dark but it makes me happy and is one of the big reasons I keep on.

If poetry makes you happy than keep right on with it. Take pride in it and never sell yourself short.
That's awesome about the girlfriend and the "kids". Without a doubt something to take great joy in.

Spent way too long depressed and relying on drugs and alcohol to take my mind off things. It's probably the happiest I've ever been

Spent way too long depressed and relying on drugs and alcohol to take my mind off things. It's probably the happiest I've ever been I've got someone who over the last week or two has really started to make me feel good. We've been friends for a couple of years but now we're headed towards something more and it came out of nowhere. I'm glad you have been able to pull out and are happy now. I mean that legit.

Waking up at 4am to make it out on the water to go fishing and watching the sun come up.

Why should it be just one? Reading, writing, being with my family and friends, enjoying a good meal, watching anime, watching hentai... I could go on and on listing the things that I consider my greatest joy.
I'm happy for the fact that I can be happy today. I have no idea what might happen tomorrow, and I know from past experiences that something bad might happen... but if it happens, I'll deal with it knowing that there have been good memories before and that there will be good things in the future. Something like that.

Honestly, my girlfriend.
The fact that an intelligent, funny, beautiful woman thinks that I am these things too, especially after struggling with my own self-esteem and body issues, is perhaps the main thing that doesn't just get me through but helps me love life.
There's another thing, but I'll forgo it in light of forum rules. You could guess from my name, maybe.

Single greatest joy in my life?
It's for about ten seconds from when I pull up to the curb to when I get to your door. Because I think maybe I'll get up there and I'll knock on the door and you won't be there.

Similar to the OP, becoming an uncle recently, my sister is quite young so I was rather pessimistic about the whole thing, the Dad's not exactly full of prospects either. Once she was born though, wow.....just wow, I was left speechless upon seeing how amazing she is.

I agree... why just one?
Two obvious ones are too easy. Wife and daughter. Nothing compares to being woken up by your child or the look on their face when you get home.
Besides that though....
- having fun at work. For any of you that dread going to work... I really feel for you. I happen to work with a great group of friends and we, gasp, have fun while working. Sometimes I can't believe I get paid to do what I do.
- Two outs, bottom of the last inning, winning runs on 2nd and 3rd... either on the mound or in the box, does it get any better?
- Married guys will understand this... I love my wife and daughter more than anything... but... one of my single most enjoyable/relaxing times is, if we are being honest...
... wife and daughter are gone for the weekend... sometimes I have so many plans and ideas of how to spend the time I do absolutely nothing and enjoy it just the same.
