Wrestlemania 15:
Wrestlemania 17:
Wrestlemania 19:
I don't even have to explain the greatness of this rivalry. I also like how each of their WM encounters took place every 2 years (15, no 16, 17, no 18, and then 19).
Discuss.

Obviously this is one of the best feuds ever.
I always wondered though, how the IWC reacted when a THIRD Rock/Austin WM bout in 5 years was announced? I mean people are moaning about seeing HBK/Taker again, so what were they like when this fued was announced for a third time?

Well, the fact that these matches were every two years instead of sequentially might have helped. For example, if Rock/Austin main evented WrestleMania 15, 16, and 17 in a row, people probably would've been angry.

The Batista/Cena feud feels like a pale imitation of the Wrestlemania XVII legendary battle of the 'superpowers'. But to his credit, Batista has definitely made the current feud much more interesting as of late.

The problem is that neither man has the charisma of Rock or Austin, and so it's nowhere near as interesting (although admittedly there's less filler this time around).

Even if they'd have done it 3 years running it wouldn't have changed the buyrate a single bit. Everything WWF put on tv back then was huge. Every arena show sold out, every RAW or SD popped no less than a 4-5 share and PPV buyrates were fantastic. They could have had Vince vs Stephanie, Shane vs Linda, the McMahon family dog vs the cat, Vince's maid vs his golf caddy but as long as they had divas, swearing in promos and Austin or Rock, they were sold out

Yeah, they were both smart and lucky to be able to take breaks in between and let others (usually involving HHH) take center stage so people wouldn't get taken out of it. Each match also had a reinvented take on the rivalry (the first match had Rock as the Corporate Champ, the 2nd had Austin shockingly turn heel, and the 3rd had the Rock back in full heel mode.)

Best series of feud/matches/promos ever. Nothing today could top any of this.

I remember some friends and I letting out a collection groan when Austin/Rock 3 was announced, but the Rock Concert quickly silenced all that. Plus, it was nice to see Rock finally get one over Stone Cold.

Watching it happen first hand, I can honestly say that me and my friends didn't really mind at all.
The first was epic. The second seemed like enough time had went by. And the third really felt like the culmination. It was handled so well.

What helps is that each match was like a bookmark for these men's careers. I - Rock was the upstart heel with rising popularity. Austin was the guy who had just been given the torch as "The Man" II - Both men were at the peak of their popularity, IMO. This was the battle to determine who truly was the face of the business. III - Both men were towards the end of their careers, having one last match to show the younger upstarts how it's done.

On a side note, I remember watching WM XIX with friends. After Austin-Rock, Kurt with his fragile neck, and Brock botching the shooting star press, we asked ourselves, "damn, how many guys are gonna leave the business tonight?!"
