- WWE Champion Batista passed Steve Austin today on the all-time longest WWE Champions list. Batista passed Randy Savage last week on the list. Here?s the list:
1. Bruno Sammartino ? 4,040 days 2. Hulk Hogan ? 2,185 days 3. Bob Backlund ? 2,138 days 4. Triple H ? 1,151 days 5. Pedro Morales ? 1,027 days 6. John Cena ? 969 days 7. Bret Hart ? 654 days 8. Batista ? 530 days 9. Steve Austin ? 529 days 10. Randy Savage ? 520 days
I highly doubt he will pass Bret Hart, But Batista is doing something Austin couldnt do, Go into Mania as Champion

Meh. All the guys on that list who have "passed Austin" won't nearly be remembered as fondly. Maybe one. Maybe two.

The real question is, will Triple H ever pass Backlund? Will Cena catch up to Morales? ...ok, that one's a stupid question, of course he will. But will ANYBODY in the history of ever ever catch Sammartino?

Shouldn't really count since Batista, Triple H, and Cena come from a era where there are two World Champions at the same time.

^^Yeah but isnt this only the WWF/E Championship, not the world heavyweight title? Batista is only a two time WWE Champion. The first reign was a day and the other one is his current title reign he won last month. So no.

Why? Austin's character never really required him to be the champion for a long period of time, until his heel turn in 2001. That was the only time Austin looked like a true champion, in my opinion. Him and Goldberg were a lot more entertaining when they were chasing the title, as opposed to holding it.

Well, it kinda did, the whole point of the Austin/McMahon feud was trying to get the belt off of him, wouldn't have been much of a feud if he didn't have it most of the time.

Austin/Rock never needed the belt, they were over enough as it is....

This is incorrect, Batista has only held the WWE Championship twice so it should be less than 50 days.

Some people really don't need a title.
I think numbers 1-3 are safe however.
Cena will go up one more...maybe 2 spots. HHH will close the gap some more but never close it.

In that case, are we adding Hogan's WCW reigns in there? Since the WHC has the WCW title lineage... depending on how WWE is feeling at the time.

Austin/Rock never needed the belt, they were over enough as it is.... I don't agree one bit with that assessment, if they were as over as they were(which they certainly were) fans would WANT them to become WWF champion, and they would be more over with it as a result, and thats what happened. If you say somebody is above any titles, then you are just devaluing championships. Anyway, those are Batista combined reigns as WWE/World champion to Austin's 6 reigns as WWF champion. Different era as others pointed out so thats not really a big deal.

Sammartino's reigns total over 11 years. Incredible.

Sammartino's reigns total over 11 years. Incredible. He was from an era where there was no TV, therefore, no chance for over-exposure. These days, a long reign is anything 4 or 5 months. That's amount of time that things start to get really stale.

Titles were hotshot a lot during the Attitude Era. Still, though, he doesn't deserve to pass Austin in any way.
