It's like the bookers realized what passionate, hyperbolic outrage a fair section of their fanbase would devote against HHH/Cena/Lashley/Nash/whoever because they're perceived as having gotten big pushes without deserving it and being shoved down the fans' throats.
Soooo... we've now got a new heel whose entire gimmick is that he's getting pushed without deserving it and is being shoved down the fans' throats.
There's a twisted brilliance to it. We'll see whether or not it's too much of an in-joke to work.

I just thought he was playing another over-entitled heel, hand-picked by McMahon. Drew's spent a good 6 months winning on his own before he needed Vince to overrule his losses and soften up his trip to MITB.

It's possible.
Having seen him on the UK indies (I've said this so many times), he isn't playing 'himself' or at least the same character, he's very muted and quiet and I can only assume they have asked him to do that for a reason.

So you're saying that his gimmick is to be pushed down our throats on purpose?
I thought that was John Cena's gimmick.

Y'know, if people hated him just because they were supposed to, why do they LIKE Batista now? Batista didn't exactly morph into a Ricky Steamboat caliber technician when he turned heel. People will forgive alot, but if you're a charisma vacuum like Drew, they will never actually care about you.

I don't hate Drew so much for being horribly overpushed - I dislike him because he's ridiculously boring. I'd be just as against him were he a jobber, just like I am with the Harts.

I think part of the problem is that he's not naturally charismatic enough to play himself (which is what he's doing now). Then again, he's not naturally charismatic enough to make most gimmicks work either

Of course, I hope that Vince announces that the reason why he "expunged" (wow, a word that you wouldn't hear in wrestling ) the losses is that he doesn't like seeing McIntyre throw hissy fits after he loses.

Whatever he is doing or not doing, its working...there are seven...SEVEN...seperate threads about the man on the front page alone. People are talking about him.

This is not a bad theory:
1. He won a title undeservingly 2. He gets his losses erased from the record books 3. He clearly has no wrestling ability making it so his supporters can't defend him with that 4. Shoved down our throats 5. A favorite of Vince
I think WWE hit a goldmine, the first superstar everyone will hate.
