I think it was the Orton match at WM21 where they started making "ending the streak" a prime motivation for Taker's WM opponents. Before that, it was something the announcers mentioned as a small piece of trivia, like Vince McMahon saying "The Undertaker has never lost at Wrestlemania" as he walked to the ring to face Kevin Nash at WM12. Exactly. It used to just be a fun fact, it wasn't a main storyline point until the Orton feud. Okay, this all makes sense. This is the best way to put it.

Technically the streak started at WM7 against Snuka, but WWE used it as a storyline @ WM21 and mentioned it alot from WM17 onwards

Wasn't Taker supposed to lose to Sid in the original plans for Wrestlemania 8? Man, that would have certainly changed things. Jake the Snake was originally supposed to beat Undertaker in 8 if I'm remembering Jake's DVD correctly... "but Jake wanted out of his contract and did the right thing and jobbed to Taker."

I think you guys might be right about the feud with Orton prior to Wrestlemania in 2005. Orton seemed so bent on ending his streak. I do remember seeing a press conference for hyping up Wrestlemania XIX back in 2002 with Undertaker saying that he wants to make it 11-0 at the time.

Mentioned during his feud with Triple H.
He referenced it himself at WMX8 after beating Flair.
His handicap match and rematch with Kane never seemed to mention it.
At the time of Orton's match, he was the Legend Killer and wanted to defeat the Living Legend Taker, then I guess they noticed he was undefeated so they had to add that in with his goth gimmick and include the little video package with the 13 dead souls.
Then Henry used it for his match, Batista didn't seem to mention it, Edge definitely mentioned it, and HBK has mentioned it two years in a row.

Yeah, after the match with Flair when he was counting his wins on his fingers was when I really noticed that there was a huge "streak" going on. I liked the way he counted his fingers. That was pretty awesome.
