Or more exactly when did they start noticing "hey Taker hasn't lost yet at WM, so lets run with it"?

I think it started happening around the American Bad Ass time. They started bringing it up around the time he was facing HHH. I'm sure Trips had said something in regards to that. I think a few years later, with Orton, they started making it the focus of Taker at Wrestlemania.

The first time I remember it being a big point in the actual story of the match was his match with HHH at Wrestlemania 17. Before that, I think they'd acknowledged it, but hadn't really made the huge deal out of it that they do now.

I thought it was Mania 18 against Flair. I don't even remember it being mentioned during HHH/Taker but that fued had a completly different build to it.

I'm pretty sure they really made a point of it during the build to Mania 17 with Hunter, then at Mania 18 with Ric it was poured on thick. So much so that after the match he stood on the apron and held up the ten fingers for 10-0.

As far as I can remember, they made small mentions of it at WM 13

Yeah, after the match with Flair when he was counting his wins on his fingers was when I really noticed that there was a huge "streak" going on.

I agree with those saying X-Seven with Triple H. Besides, it's not like the guys he faced prior that were actually threats to the record, which wasn't big enough to mention yet anyway.

I think it was the Orton match at WM21 where they started making "ending the streak" a prime motivation for Taker's WM opponents. Before that, it was something the announcers mentioned as a small piece of trivia, like Vince McMahon saying "The Undertaker has never lost at Wrestlemania" as he walked to the ring to face Kevin Nash at WM12.

I kept track of this when I was reviewing all the Wrestlemania's for 411 last year.
The first time it was mentioned was Wrestlemania 11 against King Kong Bundy
The first time it was truly pushed was Wrestlemania 18 against Flair
It took on a life of its own at Wrestlemania 21 against Orton

Exactly. It used to just be a fun fact, it wasn't a main storyline point until the Orton feud.

I definitely remember them saying specifically that Undertaker was 8-0 when he faced Triple H at Wrestlemania X-7.
But I think, not so strong memory, that they did make mention of it once during the HIAC against Bossman at Wrestlemania 15 too.

As others have said, it was mentioned as far back as WM11, but the first time I remember it explicitly being referenced during the build up to a match was during his feud with HHH. In fact I can remember them airing video packages commemorating the streak a week or two prior to WM17.

It really became "The Streak" at Wrestlemania 21, with his feud against Orton. Yeah, they mentioned it a fair bit previously, but that was the point in time it really became this legendary thing that was feuded over every year.

Wasn't Taker supposed to lose to Sid in the original plans for Wrestlemania 8? Man, that would have certainly changed things.
