As easy as she is to make fun of now, Rena Mero holds a small but special role in wrestling history. She was the one who took sex appeal in wrestling to heights never before imagined, who was for a brief time easily WWE's number two draw after Austin. And her popularity effectively re-invigorated women's wrestling. This is why her second run in WWE seems so wrestlecrappy by comparison.
We all know the story pof how she left. She claims she was uncomfortable with how sexed up her act was getting-a rather belated attack of conscience. WWE claims she became too hard to work with and wanted an unreasonable salary. I suspect the truth is somewhere in between. She left WWE with a swelled head and images of a modelling and acting career, only to find out that without the McMahon marketing machine behind her, Hollywood would not touch her with a fifty-foot cattle prod. After several years doing the car show and porno circuit, she found her way back to WWE.
But oh, what circumstances she was brought back under! First she did a confusing story with Torrie Wilson where she seemingly could not decide whether she lusted for her or hated her. Then she became Vince McMahon's mistress. And I imagine the above all this was a severely reduced salary.
Granted, she had a reality check coming. By all sources, her ego was beyond out of control when she left WWE the first time. But her second run smacks of pure vindictiveness oh Vince's part-a repeat of Dusty Rhode's infamous tenure. I ultimately think it was a sad spectacle, and maybe deserving of an induction. Hope some agree.

Yeah I remember laughing and shaking my head when she returned and basically became McMahon's evil mistress.

What I found funny was she was doing the EXACT SAME THING THAT WWF TRIED TO FORCE HER TO DO IN HER FIRST RUN.(That she was against in the first place.) And that means doing a lesbian storyline and having her character come off as a huge whore. She really needed the money didn't she?

I'm missing something here? Are you saying Vince put her in provocative angles for spite? I have to disagree...I think that was the direction of the company then. Looks at some of the stuff Vince did with Torrie Wilson or Trish Status.
According Marc Mero's shoot interview, one day she just decided to call Vince and ask for her job back. Interestingly enough, he addressed that he heard a rumor that Rena was in fact the real life mistress of Vince McMahon and that she eventually stopped seeing Vince when she met Brock. Mero said he never asked whether it was true but said he heard a lot of rumors about her while she worked for WWE the second time, while staying with Rena's daughter at home.

Well, I remember reading the entry for this on OWoW's 2003 Hall of Shame. In my opinion, her second run made her seem like a hypocrite. I still remember watching something on FOX back in 1999 about how she was unhappy with her WWF career before she left. She even complained about children being in the front row, while showing footage of Fully Loaded: IYH, as well as Unforgiven: IYH. I can fully understand the part about the handprints, but the part about her in a bra and panties match on PPV, the only part that was bad was just that she was wearing a thong. Next thing after she left, she appears on Nitro in the front row. Was she looking into going to WCW at the time?
As for her 2003-2004 run, I can't really say for sure why she ended up coming back. I mean, looking back, she wasn't as hot as she was before. Still looked good, but definitely not to how she looked back in the mid to late 90s. Also, I agree, the Torrie storyline was indeed confusing. She may have played the role of heel during that time, but you see some parts of her trying to ruin Torrie. Then the other part is her wanting to get at Torrie. Almost like how it was in late 2002 with Dawn Marie and Torrie, not to mention the whole Al Wilson debacle, which was a horrible storyline.

I remember watching Vengeance 2003 and was like umm...... wasnt Sable a former multi-time women's champion who wrestled regularly? The girl who powerbombed Marc Mero. They never brought that up. She should have moped the floor with Stephanie kayfabe wise easily instead they were kinda treated as equals.

But on the other side of that coin Stephanie was also a former women's champion who beat the immortal goddess Trish Stratus at No Way Out two years earlier in a surprisingly good match.

The thing for me is that the Torrie/Trish angle's with Vince made the women out to be underdogs who were being used and abused by the evil Mr. McMahon. With Sable, she was just made out to be his willing accomplice who legit lusted for him and did whatever he wanted. Coming especially as it did after Rena Mero had had such unpleasant words to say about Vince in her years out of wrestling, I could not help but think there was more than a little bit spite on Vince's part in it.
On that same note, I suppose an honorable mention is deserved for Sable's single WCW appearance. This one was obviously pure spite on her part, and it probably helped fuel a desire by Vince to see her humiliated in a big way. I forget what year it happened, but sufficed to say she had just quit WWE in the midst of her million dollar lawsuit, and the very next week after her release was announced she showed up on Nitro. Granted, she was just sitting in the front row, not in the ring. Nonetheless, the camera did focus in on her for a moment, and WCW's announce crew did acknowledge her presence. I don't think there was every any question of her jumping to WCW-as I said above, she thought she was going to Hollywood. But she probably did show up there just to tick Vince off and throw some sand in his eye on the way out.

As I recall there was a threat of legal action after the WCW appearance because she would have still been under her no compete clause.
