I was in one for three years and it ended up not working because she couldn't trust me to be around other people (girls) without knowing what was going on. Trust is key. If there's trust and freedom within a relationship, it'll work whatever the distance.

If there's trust and freedom within a relationship, it'll work whatever the distance. That's what's great about mine. I tell her when I'm going to hang out with friends that are girls. She tells me when she's going to hangout with friends that are guys. We already know enough about each others friends to trust each other.

I was in one. I cheated. So did she. Didn't end well.
Moral of the story? Some of these things work out. Not everyone is cut out for it. You've got to REALLY know you can do it to try it.

Thread is super impressive and, dare I say, inspirational. Making me really reevaluate something in my life right now.

On a board I used to run we had a chick from the states meet a guy from Australia. Last time I spoke them they were engaged.
Me personally, the farthest distance relationship I had was when I was 15 I "dated" a girl that lived an hour away. Back then that seemed really far.

My fiancee and I met on an Internet site, spent a couple months seeing each other on and off, and committed to a relationship, then she went to college 100 miles away for the year. We eventually moved in together when she graduated and now we're betrothed. But, it takes a lot to make it work, it wasn't flawless for us.

I was in one for 4 years, I live in London, she lived in France.
It ended, but it wasn't the distance, we saw each other as often as we could, and talked every day and night, it was just realising certain personality traits she had which killed it.
Distance isn't the problem, it's who people are that makes it work or not.
