It appears the euphoria over Scream’s return has turned into what-the-f***-is-going-on rubbernecking. Kevin Williamson has been shown the exit door and Scream 3 hack, Ehren Kruger, has been hired to re-write, which would be all well and fine if the film wasn’t in production: right now. There is word that the rewrites are causing cast members to complain. Lauren Graham left after her role was reduced to nothing. Scream 4 has been hiring at a steady rate over the past weeks with bright young things like Adam Brody, Alison Brie and Emma Roberts signing up star alongside David Arquette, Nev Campbell and Courtney Cox Arquette. Where does this leave the mooted fifth and sixth parts which Williamson was working on with director Wes Craven? Don’t count on it now if they can’t even agree over the fourth film. Craven announced via Twitter that he had no control over the script. Oh dear. This looks messy. So will the good buzz turn into a disaster by its release next April? Some major PR work might need to give this a clean and new image. It certainly doesn’t look good if the original writer has walked away and everybody is complaining. www.filmshaft.com/scream-4-becomes-troubled-production/No, this is not good.

I thought it was dumb to bring it back in the first place honestly.

How hard is it to write a Scream movie anyway?
Neve moves to a new town New friends start being killed Sexual tension/Marraige Problems between Cox and Cox Arquette Seth Green returns from the dead in Internet video form to warn them But wait, there are two killers! Arquette psych death, he gets better. Main killer turns out to be related to someone who had sex with Neve's mom. Lets go with a young woman, because thats new. Killer killed and comes back to another death.

You are literally going to be able to see the schism that has happened to horror when you see this movie and watch the first movie. It's going to be sad, and feel like you're going to a funeral. Mark my words.

Horror needs the exact opposite of Kevin Williamson's approach and the return of silent (or at least bare minimalist dialogue) film to be effective IMO. Williamson is the horror genre's Kevin Smith at this point.

Well, this will come out and bomb and then in a few years it will get the reboot treatment. The first one was the best and really it could have been the only one in the series and it would have been perfect. It "made sense". Having the sequels cheapened it and just turned it into another crummy series.

Mark my words. Heheh, "schism". Funny word. I said SCHISM, not...oh, never mind. The sad part in all this is, I think the direction of the movie could be interesting. It seems to me like they were hinting that the town that all this happened in was embracing the murders and making it into a tourist trap thingy. So then you have all of these people who are shell-shocked by all this tragedy come back and they have people dressed as Ghostface running around having a grand old time. What kind of effect could that have on them? It's kind of similar to themes that you could tell were bubbling under the surface of crap that was RZ's Halloween 2.

Never seen the oriignal, but not understood the point of resurrecting the series in the first place. Is today's typical horror movie crowd even likely to have seen it?

I'm looking forward to it. There's no point writing it off so soon.
Concerning the script re-writes and whatever else, these sites claim that no-one knows whats going on probably because they have no idea whats going on. The Scream francise is notorious for keeping things hush-hush, including this one so far.

I liked the firs one.I liked the second one(except for the fact they killed Quinn Mallory)The 3rd one?Not so much.
If anyone should be the killer it should be Billy Loomis' dad. They killed his son and his (ex?estranged?)Wife and made money off the movie rights.I would be kinda pissed.

It sounds like it's going to be a snorking crapfest, and I feel for you. But honestly, I didn't even like the first Scream movie, so the news doesn't mean much to me. But I hate it when the writer of a movie screenplay based on a movie you like (or a sequel in this case) totally snorks up the movie. Same with anyone involved in the creative process.

Wait, I thought this WAS going to be the reboot/remake and they were bringing in a whole new cast?
Sounded like a horrible idea BEFORE reading this.

Scream 4 has turned into a total mess?
So in other words it's exactly like Scream 2 & 3? (My opinion only)

But for some reason we're not allowed to blame Billy Loomis' dad for anything in the Scream universe. I mean seriously his own wife didn't blame him at all for the adultery, placing the blame squarely on the shoulders of Maureen Prescot. You'd think SOMEBODY in the movies would've acknowledged at least that if Mr. Loomis had kept it in his trousers, the killings of the first two movies might've been avoided.
