On the web site of Dave Hawk, who is Kurt Angle's manager, it stated that Kurt has retired from pro wrestling and is going to MMA. Monday's Observer has a ton on that, including updates on his negotiations.

I didn't take that letter to mean Kurt had retired from wrestling, just that he was trying something else. I figured he'd jump at the chance of going back to wwe.
Hey,all those people who were begging Kurt to retire for his own good..you got your wish.

Yeah, but instead he's trying to go to MMA, where he'll get the crap beaten out of him worse than anytime in his WWE career.

Have to agree with Deacon Chuckymac314 he's going from a scripted 'fight' into a real fight where people are really trying to hurt him. Not a good thing for someone with his medical record.

I doubt he'll be fighting anyone like Vito Belfort. It'll probably be a bunch of undercard matches booked against nobodies to boost ppv buy rates.

In trying to save Kurt WWE might have doomed him...I know they probably didn't think there was a realistic chance of him entering MMA (no one did) but he'd be a lot safer if he was still under WWE contract..

more In a link to the Kurt Angle statement posted yesterday, the former WWE Superstar's manager Dave Hawk says that Angle has retired from pro wrestling.
Although the actual statement does not definitively say Angle's retiring, the note on Hawk's website (davehawk.com) is pretty clear:
"Kurt Angle, WWE Super Star and 1996 Olympics Gold Medalist has retired from professional wrestling NOW plans to fight in the MMA in 2007!"

I never believed that Kurt was as insane and stubbornly driven as everyone's made him out to be. His recent break did everything to make him seem smart, sane, and aware of his health and situation. With this said, I now think that Kurt Angle is absolutely bats*** crazy.
Angle left a place where he performed with people that cared for his well being. Nonetheless, he still pulled countless muscles and broke countless bones in the WWE, evidenced by his last match. MMA will kill Kurt Angle. MMA fighters do not care for Kurt's well being. Fortunately (or unfortunately), we'll have to wait until 2007 to see this horrible trainwreck.
I'm glad he's taking time off from something, but I'm almost sure that it's all for the wrong reasons (read: to bulk up and train before he comes to "the MMA!!" in '07).
I hope someone upstairs is looking out for Kurt Angle, because Kurt certainly is not.

I don't think Kurt is having a mid-life crisis, nor that he is drugg addicted. Rather, I think he is addictedto adrenaline and the spotlight. The end of his WWE run came under rather sour circumstances, and I'm sure it left a bad taste in his mouth. WWE handed Kurt his release in an attempt to help him get back down to earth; to heal his injuries, to clean up his personal demons, and to deal with his personal issues. Unfortunately, Kurt may be unwilling to surrender that spotlight, and by going to MMA he is attempting to just get a taste of what he had. I truly feel sorry for the man.
BTW, for those of you who doubt it, Angle is legitimately tough. He could easily kick serious ass, but yes, he is rather old to be trying a career as a professional fighter.
