www.imdb.com/news/ni3179468/This sucks. I wish MGM would just bite the bullet and sell off their filming rights to 007 and The Hobbit. Their F'ing around is the reason for this. And now we might have seen the last of Daniel Craig as James Bonds, and lets hope that is not the case. He is brilliant as 007. Also there is word cause of all this BS that Ian McKellan may not play Gandalf in the Hobbit. What a clusterf*** this has been. They lost Gullemero Del Toro as direct due to all the BS. The Peter Jackson stuff is still just rumours. What a mess that MGM Studios are at the moment. They really need to close down, or fire their board of directors. Because this once great studio is now like WCW in it's dying days.

Ay yi yi yi yi. They should REALLY reboot themselves. Start with remaking Dr. No. Also, why are they f***ing up with Tolkien? Bah.

Its too bad that another studio doesn't just absorb them. They're too financially dumb to live but they still have some valuable properties.

man, that sucks. I'd rather the rights to these franchises get picked up by some decent studios rather than lingering around, either being ignored or exploited.

There have been offers, but they refuse because they're convinced they can right the boat and become profitable again. Apparently they have a different version of "Six billion dollars in debt and unable to get surefire blockbusters funding" than everyone else.

They are being stupid because even if The Hobbit and the next Bond film become the top 2 highest grossing films of all time... They will still be heavily in debt.

Well this sucks. Honestly, they have no more films to release this year, why in the blue hell do they think they can get by?

No complaints about no more Craig as Bond personally and not a Tolkein fan, but is a shame that fans of them are potentially being denied them.

Apparently they have the Red Dawn remake floating around out there somewhere in the release schedule. The fact that they somehow think Red Dawn will help them right the sinking ship and get enough financing for the other properties is incredibly stupid.

What annoys me is that they have "Cabin in the Woods" all but ready to release and are deciding not to because they don't want to pay to distribute it.

What a mess that MGM Studios are at the moment. They really need to close down, or fire their board of directors. Because this once great studio is now like WCW in it's dying days. That can only mean one thing, Vince is going to buy it. Get ready for Wade Barrett as James Bond, and Eve Torres and Maryse as the Bond girls.

I've considered just plain walking in with a lead pipe and demanding they hand over the franchises to me... I'm more financially viable.
MGM is kinda like a long-running, entertainment version of the banking crisis... they are a total basketcase, and basically bankrupted themselves, but they're just too financially necessary culturally respected that they can't be allowed to just die.

I think its time to let a big time director take over the film.

I think Sam Mendes was going to direct the next Bond (don't know if it's true or not) and they had one hell of a writer as well for it (name escapes me at the moment). More than likely we've seen the last of Craig as Bond, which sucks because he was the best one after Connery. A new studio will probably take it over and I'm sure they'll go in "a new direction" and god only knows what we'll get.
The Hobbit is really disappointing. I was excited to see what Gullemero Del Toro would have done with it.

Do MGM hold any other "valuable" rights other than Bond & The Hobbit, then?

By the time they get their shit together or bow to reality and sell the franchise, Daniel Craig will be Sean Connery's age. Sure, QoS was a little bit of a letdown, but it had to follow Casino Royale, and it certainly wasn't Craig's fault. Oh, what could have been...

I think its time that Bond rights aren't just exclusive. I'd like to see the Bond Novels done properly into a movie series with a 50's-60's setting.
