Before somebody comes in here to get smart, I just want to say that I know people have taken the idea of selling out and turned it into "RRRAAAAGGGGHHH how dare he make money without MY permission". But the word didn't come by on its own, so it's still valid.
So by your standards, who are the biggest sellouts in print, on the waves, on the screen, or hell...even in your neighborhood?

Well I don't want to brag, but this Sell Out was pretty big for a while.

Any one left ECW to go to WCW or WWF though can't really blame them.

Johnny Damon leaves the Red Sox for the Yankees. I'm not even a red sox fan, and I didn't want to believe it.

Jay Cutler being a big damn baby about the Denver situation and refusing to call back the OWNER. I don't care how awesome you think you are, you call back the owner of the freakin' team when he calls you.

Went and cut his hair too, thus completing the Yankees dehumanization process/ Yankee Borg Assimilation.

Especially after saying numerous times in the media that he wouldn't sign with New York. THAT is what bothered me. It wasnt so much going to the Yankees alone, it was the fact he was a complete liar about it, THEN tried to paint Boston was the villians, when he clearly left for the $$

Didn't he get butt-hurt about being booed when he returned to Fenway as a Yankee?

Peter Garrett lead singer of Midnight Oil.
Not going to say why because it will break the politics rule.

Don't forget recently too that just when the Yankees were changing their mind and thinking about resigning him, he bolted for Detroit like that.
My nominee is Benedict Arnold.

Nirvana/Green Day and the rest of the punk bands that jumped onto the gravy train.
I don't blame or criticize anyone for wanting to make more money for what they do, but those are the two names that come up first.
It kinda reminds me of John Lennon and that creep that shot him because Lennon was singing about the working class hero and making millions.
I don't where I'm going with this, I don't think selling out is a bad thing unless you don't enjoy what you are performing or singing.

"American Idiot" is a great album, but I think the Broadway thing ruins it.

"American Idiot" is a great album, but I think the Broadway thing ruins it. I didn't say they didn't like being millionares, I was just saying sellouts in my opinion were bands who worked under an independent label, then signed onto a major label thus limiting their ability to produce art which was unecumbered by men in suits who called the shots and knew nothing about the music they are selling. That being said, if I was Green Day your damn right I would've signed the contract. At least they still have the control to write about the things they want to write about, I think. The biggest sellouts were really the folks who sang about one thing, signed the contract and alienated their original fanbase by singing about that which goes against thier original ideals. That's why I didn't include NOFX. They made their money on their own. Again, I would've done the same thing and probably ended up more like Cobain. I don't like hotel rooms.

"Selling Out" doesn't exist.
The Rock didn't do it, anyone who went from the Independence to the WWE didn't do it, Metallica didn't do it, anyone who goes to the Yankees didn't do it.
