I got to thinking this might be a cool topic...what's your favorite alternate take on a fictional universe? For me personally, one of my favorites is the Age Of Apocalypse universe. It's really cool to see this world where mutants rule, the interesting dynamics that are involved (Jean and Wolverine are together! Creed is a good guy!), the new characters (Blink, Morph, and Dark Beast), and the general character designs (Sunfire being perhaps one of the awesomest character rethinkings I've ever seen) really sold the series for me, and it still remains a favorite.

Do Spider-Man: Reign and Superman: Godfall count? If so, those, and House of M.

A long time ago, in Uncanny X-Men (I'm pretty sure it was before issue #200), an ancient sorcerer named Kulan Gath took over Manhattan and made it into a high-fantasy/Marvel mix.

The Red Son Russian Superman universe was pretty awesome, like Age of Apocolypse it put interesting twists on other characters and even had an ending I liked, forming a time loop.
Age Of Apocolypse was awesome, but when it's milked dry like the series set after the end a couple of years ago, it leaves a bad taste.

I wouldn't want to live in it, but my favorite would probably be Marvel Ruins.

Any mirror universe where the good guys are evil and the bad guys are heroes. Never gets old. ;D

Would you count Earth-2 as an alternate universe. If so, it's Earth-2. If not... it's Earth-2.

I wouldn't want to live in it, but my favorite would probably be Marvel Ruins. God, what a depressing series...and I've only read the first issue. From what I heard, the second issue had all sorts of problems getting released. What happens to Banner...ugh.

If "Dark Knight Returns" counts, then that.

The Mirror Universe in Star Trek. this, but i'd like to see a similar one for star wars.

The story was solid, the main character was likeable and relatable and the art was great (admit it - Hulk's fate was perfectly drawn). Plus, I always get a small laugh out of "drunk pyromaniac Ghost Rider" and "crazy hobo cult leader Thor". It wouldn't have worked as a long series, but as a miniseries it worked fine.

I always liked the Wish Universe in Buffy that Cordie and the Demoness Anyanka created. Granted, it was the standred mirror universe, but it was nice to see everyone die and the Master in his full power.

The Mirror Universe in Star Trek. this, but i'd like to see a similar one for star wars. Nah, it wouldn't work, there's no way you could have evil Obi-Wan since he already has a beard.
