Any fans of his around here? He was a little before my time, but from everything I've read/seen, the man was a true original that has been almost completely forgotten. Apparently, he was William Regal doing Goldust's gimmick...and was just as awesome as that sounds. Most of his youtube clips are of his music videos...also awesome....

Since I only got AWA I had to read about him in mags. Relying on just pictures and whatever they wrote about him, I thought he was a total freak. I couldn't imagine what he would do in a ring. And I think he always had a hot chick with him.

I think he was the first successful face turn gay wrestling character in the 80s in the SOUTHERN territories. Truly an amazing feat.

Super creepy. I became a fan of pro wrestling in the Rock n Wrestling era around the early WrestleManias. I bought a paperbound book that had pictures of stars in all promotions including Adrian Street.
That video creeps me out. Aspects of Buffalo Bill from Silence of the Lambs, Goldust, Rico, Dee Snyder from Twisted Sister, and Dr. Frank N Furter from Rocky Horror Picture Show, and Star Child from KISS.
Rico tried to copy the gimmick but didnt capture the creepiness of it. He came across as a gay guy with chops and face paint. Goldust had some in his early days and esp when he became the Artist formerly known as Goldust.
It was way ahead of its time. Creeped out by it and that's cool.
THis guy had it all.....seems like Vince could have made him make so much money. Not sure how he never made it to the WWF. He would have been a perfect opponent for Hogan.....like Hogan's top rival of all time. His glitz and glamour would have fit in perfect with 80s WWF.
He put makeup on fallen opponents and then kicked them in the head. Even though he had the crazy flamboyance, there was a dangerous man under that makeup. He would prance and kiss, and then beat the crap out of the opponent.

I loved it whenever he'd show up in Memphis, because before he'd show up they'd play his music videos, which were always fun.

I think Street should be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame....even if he didnt wrestle for Vince, he inspired a ton of guys and the style of the 80s era. Goldust would be a great inductor.

He trained himself how to wrestle.
Let me repeat that for dramatic effect. He trained HIMSELF how to wrestle. If that's not awesome I don't know what is.

Rico actually went to Street to learn his mannerisms when he did the psudo gay gimmick a few years back. I remember pics of Street being backstage at a WWE show and people like HHH taking pics with him.
His size might have been his only detriment, but the man had IT. Charisma and toughness all in one flamboyant package.

One of the things that made him so great was that even though, he acted very effeminate, he was a real life tough guy, who could brawl with the best of them. While people hated him for acting "queer" they still respected his toughness. Unfortunately I think that much like Billy Graham he was so far ahead of his time that people simply didn't grasp his greatness during his prime. Anyway to get to Some of the thing you asked about. I don't think Vince would have ever used Street. Not only because of the family friendly WWF style of the 80's but also because Vince has a passion for big guys. Adrian Street is only 5'7, so I really can't see Vince giving him a push in the 80's WWF when everyone in the company was a 6'4 or above roid monster.

Who knows maybe Vince could use him now? He's still in phenominal shape for his age.

A fan here, too. The guy's gimmick is pure fun and he's one hell of a wrestler too. As for Adrian Street - a person, he had cancer a couple of years back - he's ok now - and he would personally reply to every get well latter fans would send him. I heard Vince wanted to bring him in at some point as a manager for a British skinheads tag team, but Street turned his offer down because he didn't want to be portrayed as a racist.

Hell, most people didn't realize he was already in his 40s when he started over here in the 1980s. Here's Adrian, Miss Linda and Jim friggin' Cornette of all people beating the hell out of Bill Dundee and Jerry Calhoun:

Man, I never saw much of him since he was before my time. But he seems so far ahead of his time. I wish there were more innovators like him around, these days.
