Just give him a mentor (ala Carlito/Ric Flair...except don't screw it up) and have him slowly start to pick up wins. I think the crowd would go crazy to see Santino build up a legit winning streak.
Or have him announce that, in an attempt to become a more serious in ring performer, that he will be entering the next season of NXT as a rookie.

Keep the character - outside the ring. In the ring he suddenly kicks the ever-loving you-know-what out of his opponents, then goes back to being funny. This is close to what I was thinking, I can see him as still the comedy character behid the curtain, but when he comes out for his match you find out hes crazy kind of like dr jeckyll and mr hyde and beats the opponent into submission kind of like Waylon Mercy

Just remember that in WWE, Kurt Angle also went from cocky to comedy to psycho to serious, almost on a yearly basis. And it got over big.

A serious, monster Santino would be released within a month. He'd be just like Vance Archer, Koslov, Ezekiel Jackson etc etc. and there'd be no place for him. Nooo! One Vance Archer is scary enough, plus there may then be too much intensity for this world to cope with. I suppose it could be done, but only if they did it well. Though I'm not sure I'd buy serious Santino..

I would like to see a return to when he first turned, somewhat goofy but still somewhat serious.

So to answer the question, yes, it's possible. But not everyone here would like it.

Im happy to see him keep his character tbh, I just wish theyd give him a better moveset in the ring. I agree, I'm not gonna lie I'm not familiar with the Boris Alexiev character but that promo showed like 20 more moves than I've ever seen Santino allowed to hit, even when he was the "Milan Miracle" in his debut.

WWE really dropped the ball on Santino, he was getting huge pops from the crowd. He should have been given a Rock like push.
