I've always believed that each era of the WWF/E has a trinity, a group of wrestlers that define that era. For example:
The Rock'n'Wrestling Era '84-'88: Hulk Hogan, Roddy Piper, Andre the Giant
The Super-Hero Era '88-'92: Hulk Hogan, Randy Savage, The Ultimate Warrior
The New Generation Era '92-'97: Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels, The Undertaker
The Attitude Era '97-2001: Steve Austin, The Rock, Triple H
It strikes me that this upcoming WrestleMania will feature the New Generation trinity in matches that could signal a finality to their careers. This will likely be Bret's last match and Shawn will either be retired or Taker will lose the last thing that feels magical about him--his streak.
I don't know why this struck me, but it feels like the end of something to me.

Seems like the peak of this era to me. As well as a transitioning from the older guys (Taker, Shawn, HHH) taking a backseat (or just stopping altogether), the new Main Eventers of the last few years taking the roles of said old 3 and a starting point for alot of the younger guys who aren't as established.

Who is the Top 3 from the "Get the F out" phase so far?
Batista/Cena/HHH?

Who is the Top 3 from the "Get the F out" phase so far? Batista/Cena/HHH? Well, if we went with folks new to the Main Event I guess Batista/Cena/Orton? Or Batista/Cena/Orton/Edge, though he debut during the Attitude Era.

Yeah, I've been thinking about that. There really is going to be something ironically fitting about it if, after all these years and very different career paths, Bret and Shawn end up having their last matches on the same night. Who is the Top 3 from the "Get the F out" phase so far? Batista/Cena/HHH? From the various marketing and promotional items I've noticed over the last couple years, it seems to be Cena/HHH/Undertaker as the three guys featured most prominently.

I'm inclined to believe it's Batista/Cena/Orton.
And it's funny that it's always in threes. For example, during the Attitude Era (circa 2000), we always bunched together Austin, Rock and Triple H in the uppercard, while in the midcard it was Benoit, Jericho and Angle. And for the tag division, it was the Dudleys, Hardyz and Edge/Christian.
And as you may recall a few years ago, the top future prospects were Kennedy, Lashley and Burchill. That eventually evolved to Kennedy, MVP and Punk.
Always in threes, folks.

I propose that the years 2002-2007 be referred to as the Entertainment Era.
Maybe call the 88-92 era the 'Superstars Era' in reference to the top WWE programming of that era (which changed with the arrival of Raw in 1993).
I suppose we are living in the PG Era right now?

I still say that the current era began in 2005 with the title wins of Cena and Batista. Those two along with either Orton or Edge are the defining stars. 2002-2005 was its own era (Ruthless Aggression). I'd argue Lesnar, Angle and HHH were the big three back then.

I don't believe in eras. The storylines keep moving forward and there is no division - it's like not like every three or four years everything's thrown out and they start fresh.

Who is the Top 3 from the "Get the F out" phase so far? Batista/Cena/HHH? Triple H/Orton/Cena. I only wish we could one day see all three face off in a triple threat match.

Triple H/Orton/Cena. I only wish we could one day see all three face off in a triple threat match. It was a joke.

The sad part is none of them are passing the torch.

Why would Cena or Orton pass the torch?

This doesn't warrant a new thread so I'll ask it here.
Is it known how long is Bret staying around for? I thought it was just up until Sunday, but he's coming to the UK with them in April (and IIRC is a special enforcer for a Cena vs Batista re-match on the April 12th Raw).

The sad part is none of them are passing the torch. To who? This isn't Cena, Orton's last Mania (Batista, I'm not too sure about), but its probably their peak. When a guy is ready and hopefully on fire, then they'll "pass the torch" so to speak to someone like Morrison, Miz, Sheamus, etc, who's ready to take on that responsibility.

Why would Cena or Orton pass the torch? I think he meant New Generation wrestlers and he's got a point. A Shawn Michaels retirement match would have been a great way to get one of the younger heels over.

Shawn needs to lose a retirement match against Zack Ryder, so he can become the Heart & Soul Super Heart Break Kid of the WWE.
