Cool, maybe I'll actually watch it now. Haven't paid attention to SmackDown! since it made the move.

Regardless what the article is saying right now, are we sure that it's even going to stay on Fridays? Fridays have been SyFy's marquee night for at least ten years. All of their big deal shows ( Farscape, the Stargate franchise, Eureka, Battlestar Galactica, Caprica, Doctor Who, and so on) have aired on Friday from nine to eleven. I don't see them giving it up without a fight. Oh... And the following is from my fiancée, who is both a Sackdown fan and a Sci-Fi geek: "They cannot get rid of Sci-Fridays. They can't. It's been there forever. They can move their fifth airing of Cyber-Anaconda vs. Zombie Shark from Tuesday in order to fit wrestling. They can't do that to Fridays. Their frakking network would be off the air right now if it wasn't for their Friday shows. They can't do this!" Well I guess they could get rid of Superstars and air Smackdown on thursday nights. Superstars isn't important anyway in the grand scheme of things so I doubt it would be missed. Superstars would most certainly be missed by the people who actually like to watch WRESTLING.

Eh, if SmackDown gets moved back to Thursdays I say move Superstars to Friday. It probably brings in some decent money for WWE while giving them a chance to use guys who'd be doing absolutely nothing otherwise, and the concept of Superstars makes a lot more sense coming after all of the shows of the week than it does now.

Smackdown should really air on Thurs. (which was its original airtime anyway) not Fri. Removal of Friday's Sci-fi slot will make the CNReal fiasco look smooth by comparison.

This means no more free wrestling in my area.
Atlanta has gone from being the hotbed of wrestling to not even having a show on TV

I live in Hawaii and Smackdown has always been on a god awful timeslot since 2001 and we didn't get Smackdown aired back in Hawaii till 2004 since we didn't have a UPN affiliate till then. I'm glad I'll finally be able to watch Smackdown now since the idiots who own the MyNetworkTV affiliate here in Hawaii air the show at 12:30AM on Fridays and I usually work early shifts on weekends and is unable to watch it.
Great move, but at the same time I feel sorry for those who don't have cable cause their only output on major wrestling is gone.

Well, my new satellite will actually pick it up, but doesn't really change that it's a poor fit and no one's going to be watching it.Why wouldn't people watch? They watch on crappy MyTV, I'd assume that channel name doesn't matter. It could be on Lifetime and people would still watch. Hey hey hey there...I'm only saying that because a show I loved moved to Lifetime and I don't watch said show that much anymore. I may end up missing Smackdown more than usual when it moves to SyFy because I'm a creature of habit. One of those habits is not watching SyFy.

Basically, this is all MyNetworkTV's fault. They failed to gain viewers and failed to live up to the hype of being a new network. Within two years they got stuck as an all-syndicated reruns channel with WWE as virtually their only original programming. WWE trusted them and MyNetworkTV f***ed it up.
That said, I think WWE should make an effort to produce a new syndicated program like Bottom Line or Afterburn just so basic-cable fans can have at least SOMETHING they can watch.

Then again, Smackdown might bring in viewers that could stick around for 10pm where Syfy can put their originals on rotation and ensure no repeats.

I remember when ECW started and the SciFi (what it used to be called anyway) forums, and people were horrible about it. Calling everyone who wanted to talk about it rednecks and acting like idiots. Hell I remember either Sabu or one of the other ECW originals actually addressed the forum madness in the early days. There's a difference between complaining about something constructively and bitching while making ignorant assumptions. Just hope they choose the first option instead of repeating history about "wrasslin" taking over their channel. While I agree with your general statement, you have to see where they're coming from: Most sci-fi fans want nothing to do with wrestling, and want nothing to do with it on their network. IMO, they have a right to be upset. Do they go overboard with it? Sure. And I agree that there's no need for the insults in either direction. And that's where the problem lies. If we don't want them "bitching" or "making ignorant assumptions" while calling us "rednecks", then we can't turn around and rub salt in their wounds by making bad jokes and posting "cry some more" videos. By doing so, all we do is reinforce the very stereotypes that we don't want them to have. If we are to be taken seriously as wrestling fans, we need to stop acting like we're in junior high. Yes. It's sorta like the gamers who sent Jack Thompson death threats... way to prove the guy's points.

It will be interesting to see the ratings. Is Smackdown watched by less than or more than RAW, if so by how much and how will Vince react if Smackdown over takes RAW? Not happening. Better wrestling show doesn't equal better ratings anymore, face it. A casual fan of mine when I mentioned Smackdown was like "Is it still like it used to be, with Smackdown being the "scrub show"" and she was regularly watching wrestling during the Smackdown Six days. Most casuals I know only watch RAW and only seem interested in RAW.

You know, about a year ago, I asked the question on this here board "where will Smackdown be in a year from now", or something like that.... The majority of us though it would still be on the air, but still on MyNetworkTV... at least we're half-right! As far as Sci-FI/SyFy goes... it's only a matter of time until the channel is "Spike Too" Spike Too is G4 Well at least it's a step in the right direction.... I get MyNetworkTV but the picture quality is HORRIBLE so I never watch SD! because of that. So I'm glad to hear they are going to be on cable and at that SyFy...futher showing commitment to wrestling. Also, it will reach more people which can only be a positive. Now if they would just move to a new timeslot..... ROH - Mondays RAW - Mondays TNA - Mondays & Thursdays NXT - Tuesdays Superstars - Wednesday SD! - Friday Sundays = ppvs Saturdays = nothing There is no reason not to move back to Thursday nights now. They'd be running on a very popular tv night and against a TNA rerun. Not exactly competition other than basketball/baseball, Survivor, ect. If Smackdown and Survivor go head to head I will cry. Survivor is my favorite non wrestling show. Smackdown is my favorite wrestling show. So if they go back to Thursdays, please say they do 9-11

Not important to some wrestling fans. But very important to Vince, especially all that money WGN is paying him. I prefer Weds, I haven't had that since WCW Thunder. Or put it on Tues and have NXT be its lead in. I think Syfy is putting it on Fridays as a test drive. To see if it keeps its audience from MyNetworkTv. If it does well, I bet they will move it to a better slot.

I can't imagine the reaction to this news on the SyFy message boards. I remember the overwhelming negative reaction to ECW coming on it. I cant wait to see what the comment section on Io9 says. They'd put cockfighting on Syfy if it would draw a 2.0. UFC? And now that I think of it SyFy fans should thank us,I mean at least wrestling is not one of the crappy movies the channel makes.I pretty much abandoned the channel after the axed Farscape......bastards.

When they moved to MyTV, the ratings went from mid 2's through the summer and high 2's during the Wrestlemania build, to low 2's/high 1's and has pretty much stayed there. Hopefully moving to the channel that kept ECW going longer than anyone probably thought it would will help. But then again, it might mean Vince and Stephanie getting more creatively involved, and we all know that's bad news.

Great. The only channel I actually do get with wrestling on it is MyNetwork. I don't have cable and I have to get it with an antenna. They're going to take that away from me now too. Well, at least there's the internet. Another person who sees my dilemna. I don't have cable myself, so I find this problematic. Yeah, there's the Internet.
