From LA Times: Syfy Channel has pinned a deal for "Smackdown." World Wrestling Entertainment Inc's "Smackdown," which for years was a mainstay on the UPN and CW networks before moving to News Corp.'s My Network TV, is now headed to NBC Universal's Syfy Channel, people close to the situation said.
A deal, which will be announced later this week, further solidifies the growing relationship between NBC Universal and Vince McMahon's WWE. Syfy already carries the show "NXT," which is a reality program featuring wannabe wrestlers trying to make it to the big leagues of WWE. NBC Universal's USA cable channel also carries WWE programming including "WWE Raw."
Although terms were not disclosed, My Network TV was shelling out roughly $20 million a year for "Smackdown." Syfy's price tag is believed to be closer to $30 million a year.
Although "Smackdown" is more than 10 years old, it still does very well with men, particularly the 18-34 demographic, and generally averages about 3.5 million viewers overall. "Smackdown" will continue to air on Friday nights when it moves to Syfy later this year, most likely in either late September or early October.latimesblogs.latimes.com/entertainmentnewsbuzz/2010/04/wwes-smackdown-moving-to-syfy-.html

And they still don't fix the biggest problem. That damned Friday timeslot.
Still, at least this way it's on a channel a lot of people get, and I can get it in HD finally, so woo!

That's shocking. You think with ECW's failure, Syfy wouldn't be as willing to take in SmackDown. I always thought TNA should have tried going head-to-head with SmackDown instead of Raw, and I stand by that statement.

I like this. I won't have to wait until 9pm to watch it once it moves to SyFy.

It seems risky, but there's a chance it could prove beneficial.

Awesome. Smackdown won't get delayed a day because of the Phillies game being on tv.

Why doesn't USA take it? What harm could it do?

Oh no doubt this could be very benefitial to both parties, I don't know a whole lot of people who have MyNetwork TV so it's step up in my opinion. It's just TNA would have got a great start with SmackDown being on a channel where it can't draw in such big ratings. Then SmackDown would end up moving to Syfy (which TNA would claim is all because of them) and it'd be interesting to see how much that effected TNA's ratings.

So will Smackdown or Eureka be the lead in?
This is great for the WWE. My Network may not be around much longer, and SyFy isn't going anywhere.

I can't imagine the reaction to this news on the SyFy message boards. I remember the overwhelming negative reaction to ECW coming on it.

Great. The only channel I actually do get with wrestling on it is MyNetwork. I don't have cable and I have to get it with an antenna. They're going to take that away from me now too. Well, at least there's the internet.
